It's his own personal Hell! After the funeral of his estranged father, faded hometown hero Hector "Heck" Hammarskjold finds himself the new owner of the old man's house... and inside it, a portal to the underworld! With few other prospects on the horizon, Heck goes into business settling inheritance disputes by contacting the recently deceased, accompanied by his faithful sidekick Elliot. But when an old flame knocks on their door with an important message for her late husband, Heck and Elliot embark on a terrifying journey down into the nine circles, braving the horrors of Hell for an assignment that will reveal more than they ever imagined!
Award-winning cartoonist Zander Cannon (The Replacement God, Top 10, Smax, The Stuff of Life) collects his serial from the hit digital magazine Double Barrel into his long-awaited first graphic novel: a story of memory, friendship, and regret, where the past is dead and buried... but not out of reach.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Toni Jourdan
Lives change when a person experiences the death of a parent. Hector Hammarskjold finds that out in spades when he returns to his hometown after his father’s passing. Heck was a popular, big shot football star during high school. Resurfacing at the funeral are Amy, who has retained her beauty and married crosstown rival, Greg Traderman, and Heck’s terminal fan, Elliot Fnordbjerg, who was the geeky water boy for the football team. Still a hanger-on, he tries to befriend Heck. They discover a gate to Hell in Heck’s father’s creepy mansion on the hill.Heck turns this portal into a business. An entrance to Hell and a house full of spellbooks are the perfect location to answer people’s concerns about their newly departed. When Amy’s husband dies following a company embezzlement, she has questions.;When she has signed the contract in blood, Heck and Elliot make the trek to Hell’s many layers. (Elliot is now a small mummy man after Hell’s Geryon chewed on him during one of the jobs.) Heck comes across Greg’s friend from work, Heck’s father, and his own future. Heck witnesses the worst of the worst and sees how his life’s course will play out when there’s no hope. He’s definitely interested in Amy, especially now that she’s newly single again, but what’s hidden behind her facade? Black-and-white sketches reveal a cautionary tale about our choices exposing us. This graphic novel was started during a Minneapolis-St. Paul 144-Hour Graphic Novel Project. This fast-paced adventure comes with interesting description of Hell’s various levels. Can Heck learn from mistakes in his past or are we all just on an inevitable path to destruction? Reviewer: Toni Jourdan; Ages 16 up.
