Hector and Prudence, two angular pig parents, let their six piglets open one big present on Christmas Eve: an electric train. As they play happily with it, one comments that it is ``almost like we were going for a real train ride.'' And in a flick of the page, they are off. Cheerful watercolors are dominated by the light pinks of the pig family, the darker pinks of the engine, and the still rosier pink of Santa and his sleigh that keeps appearing in the background of the pig's wild ride. The humor of Santa's antics, such as buying pizza, riding in style on a handcar with a reindeer, or driving off in a pickup loaded with hay, will keep children looking. Koscielniak's loosely limned pigs and the slightly off-balanced arrangement of the pictures match perfectly this offbeat and crazy story.
