4.5 stars!! Kat is on the run. Running from a crime she didn't commit. Well, not like they say she did anyway. With nobody to stand by her side, she disappears. Until he finds her. Now he just has to get her back to San Antonio. With a lot of unexpected things throwing a wrench into his plans, this job is proving much harder than it was supposed to be. He should listen to his gut, for everything. I loved this book! It's filled with mystery, suspense and humor. I thought I had an idea of what was happening, but then I dismissed it. Why?? I don't know. Probably the same reason he did. I have nothing bad to say about how this book was written. This story has a great flow from beginning to end and exceptional detail. The characters are as developed as they need to be and nothing more. Which is what the book calls for. My favorite conversation (from his POV): "...."What are you doing?" I ask. Kat's shoulders jump, undoubtedly recognizing my voice. She drops her face down, curling in on herself. "You're ruining my moment." I sigh and cross my arms. "What moment would that be?" "Johnny Depp's hands are on my ass."..." You'll have to read the book to get that whole scene, but it made me laugh and I had to mention it!! I'm glad I put Season Vining on my "Authors To Watch For" list. She's truly an amazing writer and I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve for her next book. *I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

3.5 stars My first time reading Season Vining and I really enjoyed her style!   I liked the way story unfolded and how we got to know the characters.  The relationship between "Steel" and Kat did seem to just jump ahead a bit, but I liked getting both POV's.  My one wish was that we got more of a background on "Steel" but I enjoyed his brooding/quiet character.  The last 20% seemed rushed (and a bit silly) after the long build up but I did enjoy these characters!  I really enjoyed the adventure and will definitely have a new author to add to my reading list!

Has the hunter been captured by the prey? Held Against You by Season Vining takes a young woman caught in the crosshairs of a bounty hunter and turns her running from justice into a tale of running toward a future that promises to erase the darkness of the past. Kat is full of life, humor and running scared for a crime she has been accused of committing. Her goal, Canada, get lost, stay lost and heal from the pain of the world she knew having turned its back on her. The Bounty Hunter is looking to do one last job, the biggest of his life and then heading for the healing waters of his tropical hideaway. There is just something about Kat that screams to his soul, she is not what he expected, not what he planned for, and she is being hunted by more than just him. An unfamiliar emotion is roiling inside of him, he likes her, he believes her story and he has become determined to save her from the others, no matter what. Their journey is long, fraught with peril and their connection is undeniable. As the heat and tension rise on their tentative truce, the outside world has become a thing to be wary of as they are repeatedly found and repeatedly must outwit their pursuer. Has Kat broken through his well-constructed barriers? Is he revealing too much to this amazing woman? They are falling fast and he hasn’t even been honest enough to give her his real name. Then, again, what is normal about their relationship? With a touch of humor, witty banter and delightfully intriguing characters, Season Vining has filled her world with fear, loneliness and mistrust, but buffers it with a relationship that is blooming slowly, through need to believe in goodness, love and a future for two people who have seen enough ugliness to last ten lifetimes. I wanted these two to find happiness; I wanted Kat to never have to face the “justice” being demanded. Last, I wanted to know the Bounty Hunter’s name! Once again, Season Vining has created the great escape in more ways than one!

Missed Potential I would like to thank Dundurn & NetGalley for granting me a copy of this ARC to read in exchange for an honest review. Though I received this e-book for free that in no way impacts my review. Goodreads Teaser: "Accused of a horrible crime and on the run, Kat has been rejected by everyone she loves. Will their journey force these two passionate opposites together…or will their dangerous secrets be too much to bear?" Entertaining story, but lacks that certain je ne se quais that makes it stand out from all the others within the same genre.  The characters are entertaining, yet they have a certain recycled feeling for me, almost as if bits and pieces of other characters were thrown into a blender until each of these characters came out. I suppose that could technically be said about all characters, heck all people, but in this case the main characters lack that cohesion that allows them to have a magnetism that draws me into their story. Unfortunately that leaves me with a story that feels rather like unleavened bread, except in this case there was supposed to be an element like yeast to allow the story to rise to its full potential (if we're sticking with the bread analogy) - and for me it was lacking that essential ingredient. While all that may sound excessively negative, it doesn't mean that this story is a waste. It's a fun read, easy and mildly entertaining. That's simply my problem with it. The mild part. It was like going to watch a murder mystery movie that you were really excited about, only to figure out the entire plot, including the supposed twists, and who the actual killer really is, all in the first five minutes of the ninety minute movie. That leaves you with a movie where you're somewhat bored and restless, and apt to pay more attention to the scenery that the characters and action that was the original draw. But unfortunately that scenery isn't enough to return the film to its anticipated blockbuster hit status you held it to prior to seeing it (or in this case reading). I may have judged this harshly, but I will say at the least it won't fail you as a beach read or post-surgery. It will keep your attention if there's nothing else around to distract you, and if you do get distracted and forget to mark your page - well if you pick it up again a few pages ahead of where you left off before, not to worry. . . you'll be caught up with the plot line in minutes, no worse for the wear.

Kat is on the run for a murder she committed out of self defense but everyone else thinks she did it for money so she skips bail. "Steel" is a bounty hunter who will get paid a lot...enough to retire after this...to capture Kat and bring her back. But as they take the long trek back, Kat and Steel begin to learn things about each other...and about Kat's family. My attention was caught from the first page till the last.

This was pretty good, and I really liked Kat. I always like when there are smart female characters in books, and I especially love nerdy tech types, so I really enjoyed Kat's character. I also liked the whole on the run scenario, but I felt like Kat wasn't quite so smart with some of her decisions relating to her situation, and some of the actions she chose while she's on the run, but the story kept me interested till the end, and I wanted to keep on reading till I finished. The chemistry between Kat and the bounty hunter was excellent, and Kat's humor definitely adds to my enjoyment of this book; helps make it not quite so heavy. This book definitely took a different turn then I was expecting, but the way it ended up, I thought, was a good way to go for the story; although I do wish some more people got their comeuppance! This book was romance with an edge, and I think it's unexpected. A great read!

Katherine Percle (a.k.a. Kat) is a wanted fugitive, who is considered dangerous and sly enough to slip through the hands of the law as well as a few henchmen. This absolutely is an adrenaline read and far from predictable.  With the debut of her second book, it is apparent that Vinning has mastered the art of plot twist and suspense. Her writing styles contain subtle hints of symbolisms and powerful imagery that engulfs the reader in her plausible worlds. As for this story’s main character, Kat, I positively loved her! From her witty quips to her 80’s references, her character was so real and likable that I couldn’t help but root for the murder. (I mean deflective humor with a scene from the Breakfast Club, songs from Michael Jackson and a Golden Girl reference, who wouldn’t fall in love and risk aiding and abetting charges?)  Kat’s charm wasn’t enough to make our male protagonist (and I use that term lightly) fall at first sight, because nothing in life especially love comes easy. His hard exterior and damaged interior were the perfect match for Kat’s charismatic personality and sass. He was hard and damaged but not immune, and proved to be more of a match than he ever intended.  The suspense, comedic relief and romance are all well deserving of five stars.  I was provided a free copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars! I went into this book slightly blind.  All I knew was it was written by Season Vining and that was enough.  The book starts off with Kat running away.  I had no idea what she'd done, but her fear was palpable, as was her desperation to get away.  I was scared for her and intrigued because I wanted to know what she'd done to necessitate going on the run. I really liked Kat.  I loved how she tried to guess her captor's name.  I understood her fear as she tried to get away from those who would harm her.  I loved her motivation for what she did and loathed those who'd hurt her.  I was able to see the innocence in her, and that's what her captor saw too.  The bounty hunter who captured Kat couldn't help but see past his job to who she was.  I felt horrible for the bounty hunter too, as his past came to light.  It's horrible when the ones who are supposed to love and protect you fail you. However I loved seeing Kat and her bounty hunter fall in love among all the ugliness of their realities.    There were so many twists in this book.  Just when I thought I had a grip on what was happening, something new happened to twist the trajectory of the story and I was helpless in it's grasp. All I could do was read as fast as I could. Season Vining is great at writing action and mystery.  You don't even realize you're holding you're breath.  The story is as emotional as it is rife with strife.   This is my second book by Season Vining in two days.  I thought this book was related in some way to her debut novel, Beautiful Addictions, but besides being well written and amazing, the two are independent of one another.  Her novels are new adult, but they're full of suspense and intrigue that will leave you on the edge of your seat. This book is definitely one you're going to want to read!  And in all honesty, my review in no way does this book justice.  You've got to read it to find out for yourself!

This was my first story I've read by Season Vining, and I loved the originality of it. I really really liked how this story panned out. I liked the twists and turns, and the unexpected feelings. I liked the story behind our characters and how they bonded over their ugly pasts. I even really liked the twist with the ex-girlfriend. One of the things that topped of this story for me was our female character; I liked the way that Kat never stopped fighting. She knew what she had to do to survive and she kept at it, even when she was 'captured.' So many things I loved about this book. I feel like I could go on forever. I liked the twist of who was after her. I loved the twist of having then another person after her. I just loved so much about how Season wrote this book.  The writing was very smooth and flowed very well. The characters were very relateable and you immediately connect with them and Kat. As you find out more and more about her, you like her and connect with her even more. I also liked the originality of the story line.

Great story with really intriguing characters! I was hooked from the beginning! I like how the characters were introduced and the story line as well, a really good foundation was made from the beginning. It had light moments mixed with animosity, drama, and a bit of sexiness. I liked Kat a lot. In such a bad situation but in the middle of the everything there were moments of humor. Those moments added just the right amount of lightness it needed. Kat really was super sweet! The bounty hunter who was after her was fascinating. I seriously wanted to know everything about him. This is told from dual POV's which I loved. They have this back and forth animosity which was great. They had a nice push and pull going on. He doesn't tell her his name until much later and she makes up names for him which I think is extremely funny. I loved watching the bounty hunters struggle and vulnerability, he had such inner turmoil. Him opening up and really gaining personal growth was great. It loved how Kat could break through his armor. I liked both of their internal thoughts and learning about their struggles. It all made for a great story. I had so many questions throughout and it had a good build to all the answers even though some parts were slow for me. There was drama and conflict throughout that maintained a nice level of intensity and kept me on the edge of my seat. There were actually a few parts that caught me by surprise. That being said, some things wrapped up a bit to easy but overall I thought it was an excellent read.  This story had everything I'm a fan of: animosity, a bit of funny and sexy, drama and intensity, and characters that really make me want to get inside their heads.
