PreS-Gr 2 A too-tall giraffe gains confidence when she uses her extra long neck to capture a robber in this clever picture book. The message to young readers who are self-conscious about their physical attributes is a reassuring one, presented lightly and with humor. But the real charm of this book lies in Neuhaus' deft illustrations. The pictures of Helga and her classmates, especially, will delight childrenanimal heads are attached to thin, clothed human-looking bodies. Helga High-Up is shown to be exactly thather neck is easily five times the height of her classmatesand Neuhaus uses this exaggerated height to comic advantage in these silly illustrations. The text is overly long in places, but the storyline and illustrations are captivating enough to overcome that problem. David Gale, ``School Library Journal''
