Hell hath no hunger like a man let out of a cage . . .

Shy and awkward, First Daughter Grace Reeves has always done what she’s told. Tired of taking orders, she escapes her security detail for a rare moment of peace. Except her worst nightmare comes to life when a ruthless gang of criminals abducts her. Her only choice is to place her trust in Reid Allister, an escaped convict whose piercing gaze awakens something deep inside her. Reid is nothing like her other captors.

He’s tougher, smarter…and one blistering look from him makes her hotter than any man ever has.

Reid spent years plotting escape and revenge . . .years without a woman in his bed. For this hardened felon, Grace Reeves isn’t just out of his league—she’s from another planet, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting her. Escaping Devil’s Rock was tough, but resisting this woman could be the end of him. For a man with nothing to lose, protecting her . . . claiming her as his own, becomes more necessary than his next breath.

## GOOD but could've been great. I don't mind the ex con trope. In fact, I loved Knox's story. I don't even mind the kidnapping. What bothered me was the way the heroine was described: Plain, boring, wallpaper, short, NOT beautiful, NOT pretty, chubby, not much to look at, awkward.....etc. It was so over the top. And I couldn't imagine this perfect male specimen (because that's how HE was described) falling for her. The whole time I pictured her nothing short of hideous which completely ruined any chemistry they may have had. It distracted me throughout. There has to be SOME initial attraction. He spent half the book (at least) insulting her, thinking of her as spoiled boring wallpaper (his words), then all of a sudden he thinks she's beautiful. They argued through the entire story except one night. I felt like they needed more than one night to fall for each other, especially after all the things he said. I'm really bummed that authors feel the need to write dowdy, unattractive, insecure heroines just to be PC. This is fiction for Pete's sake. Subsequently, I could only manage 3 stars.

Okay maybe a little unrealistic, but I loved the characters, the story, and the writing. Looking forward to the rest in this series.

Hell Breaks Loose was a suspenseful action-filled steamy romance. It’s the second book in the Devil’s Rock series and it does stand on it’s quite well. I loved our hero who is an ex-convict, although Reid is still a convict... newly escaped. He's focused, on a mission, and has only one goal. You feel how deeply he wanted his life to be different and how he knows that he's going back or will die doing what he escaped to do. Reid’s done bad things and prison has tainted his soul, but one thing he would never do is hurt a woman. I liked our heroine. Grace's life isn't her own. She did, does, and is doing what daddy wants. Being the perfect daughter, dating the man he picked, etc. All she wants is to find herself again and be free. She never expect to find herself kidnapped and held hostage by a gang all because a bad man wants to hurt her father, who just so happens to be the President. In someways we all can relate to Grace and the pressures life and the people in it can put on us. The romance is a slow burn. The passion and chemistry is their between Reid and Grace from the moment they met. Both feel a connection despite their situation. Grace is reluctant to fall for her dangerous kidnapper and Reid doesn’t want to fall for anyone. I liked the romance, but it came a little to close to being and feeling like Stockholm. After finishing Hell Breaks Loose I’m a little curious to check out more in the Devil’s Rock series. Knox from book one, All Chained Up, makes an appearance, only a small one, to talk with Reid. And, so I get the impression they are friends, maybe from prison. It makes me curious. Rated: 3 Stars

Inmate Reid Alastair has been a resident of Devil’s Rock Penitentiary for eleven years. Not a day has gone by that he hasn’t plotted revenge against the one responsible for putting him in there. One deadly riot and a short stay in the hospital gave Reid the perfect opportunity to escape and finally exact his revenge. He returns home to find his brother and old crew have kidnapped a rather high profile target. First Daughter Grace Reeves has grown up being the dutiful daughter. Shy and a little awkward, she has never even bent a rule. Until one night an act of rebellion led to being kidnapped by a gang of criminals, hell bent on making her father pay. At the mercy of her captors, Grace must fight to stay alive. When Reid shows up Grace thinks he’s just one more dangerous criminal. So why is he trying to protect her? Grace’s presence complicates things for Reid, until he figures out a way to use the First Daughter in his plan for revenge. He convinces his brother to let him take Grace to another location. Alone in the middle of nowhere, Grace and Reid fight hard against their forbidden attraction. As the two grow closer, the stakes get much higher. When the time comes to make a choice, Reid will have to decide if his revenge is worth losing the woman who has claimed his heart. Hell Breaks Loose is the second installment in the Devil’s Rock series and it does not disappoint. A sexy page turner and another hit from the wonderfully talented Sophie Jordan!

HELL BREAKS LOOSE is the ultimate good girl-bad boy story. This is the anxiously awaited second book in Sophie Jordan’s brilliant Devil's Rock series, and it doesn’t disappoint. Although the tone is quite different from All Chained up: HELL BREAKS LOOSE is more subdued, more character-based, but no less exciting. Grace Reeves is the First Daughter, and a quite publicly uninteresting one: she is not conventionally pretty, and has never done anything – good or bad – to be noticed. While being daring for the first time in her life and shaking loose her security detail, she is immediately kidnapped by thugs and taken to a cabin. Reid Allister, a convicted felon of 11 years is in hospital after having been injured in a prison riot; he had planned to stage an escape but it went very badly. He does however escape the hospital to drive to his brother’s cabin, where he comes face to face with the First Daughter. His brother had decidedly not behaved himself while Reid was in prison, but still there is more than meets the eye… HELL BREAKS LOOSE has some of the most chillingly convincing villains I have ever seen, and while it is a romance, it is far from predictable. I must admit that Ms. Jordan had me worried a few times: Reid hasn’t seen a woman in 11 years, and he is exuding testosterones. While Grace is attracted to him, she fights her attraction with everything she’s got, as does he, but to no avail. Besides, Reid is determined to set her free, unscathed. HELL BREAKS LOOSE is another fantastic read by the ever so talented Sophie Jordan, and while this book was not quite what I expected – this whole series is not what I expected, but so much more! – it is gripping, exciting, and the romance feels completely genuine. And it will make you think. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
