About the Author

Charlie Cochet is an author by day and artist by night. Always quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From adventurous agents and sexy shifters to society gentlemen and hardboiled detectives, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in—and plenty of romance too!
Currently residing in Central Florida, Charlie is at the beck and call of a rascally Doxiepoo bent on world domination. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found reading, drawing, or watching movies. She runs on coffee, thrives on music, and loves to hear from readers.

This book had me cracking up! A tough and in some ways brutal world meshes with an insightful, sweet, sexy and hilarious team.

Hell & High Water is the first book in the THIRDS series by Charlie Cochet. It starts with Dex putting his work partner behind bars for shooting a Therian in the back in cold blood. Of course, this doesn't go down very well with others in the police force so he gets beaten up for his trouble on more than one occasion. He also gets shunted out of his job into a new one with the Therian force, called a promotion to help it go down easier. When he gets there, he realises that his new team is in trouble, and he has some big boots to fill. This is also whilst they have an ongoing investigation, plus the tensions within the team. This book had me laughing out loud with Dex's comments and snark, whilst in the next breath, my heart was breaking for him/them/her (whichever one of the team that was being spoken about). Although Dex could be called high maintenance, his humour is his shield and he wields it with precision! He has a brain and eyes, and isn't afraid to use them - seeing connections and things that others are trying to hide. There isn't a lot of unnecessary drama with Dex, the drama that is there is usually for a reason. Sloane doesn't want a new partner, but is on his last warning. To his surprise, Dex is accepted by most of the team quicker than he would have thought possible. To his dismay, he finds that he also likes him, although he doesn't want to. This book is excellently written, and will draw you in as you stay with Dex as he goes through everything. The pace is smooth throughout, building up to the climax that will leave you breathless. Full of emotions, whether they are 'good' or 'bad', as a reader you will experience a whole gamut of them. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. Highly recommended, and I can't wait to continue with this series. * Verified Purchase ~ April 2017 * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I liked it. It was amusing for the most part, the chars were likable. My only issue was that it was a kind of upside down world where the author made it seem that most people are gay and only the rare person is straight. I guess in a gay fantasy world that would be the case so I raised an eyebrow, ignored it and kept reading cause it was fun.

I love these characters. They're all so different, and so interesting. Of course I love Dex, the life of the party, and Sloane, Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome. But I also find myself drawn to Hobbs and Cael and others. This is definitely an Allstar cast. The storyline is an excellent mix of action and comedy. The ideas of friendship and family play heavy roles, and everything becomes lighter with Dex's amazing personality. I can't wait to read more. This was my favorite quote—"It's like half of me is missing, but it's not, it's inside me. But no matter what form I'm in, I'll never be able to get the two halves together."

Amazing Contemporary Paranormal m/m New York City Dexter J. Daley is a homicide detective that suddenly finds himself sans, boyfriend and friends when his testimony helps send his partner away for murder. He is lucky to still have his teeth after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, which shows him the consequences and media frenzy aren’t far behind. Dex fears he will be transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct or even worse be dismissed. Instead after a few strings being pulled by his adoptive father, who is a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron that is known as the THIRDS, Dex is recruited as a Defense Agent. Dex is eager to start his new job and get his life back on track. When he first meets with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who is also his new jaguar Therian partner it is a disaster. Dex soon learns that getting his partner and the rest of the tight knit team to accept him will be harder than catching the killer they are investigating for the murders of three HumaniTherian activists. It might also be just as dangerous. This is an amazing opening book to a series that should prove to be fantastic if the rest of the books live up to this one. The characters are complex and interesting and make for a story that is very hard to put down. It is a very different story that makes it really stand out in this genre. It is action packed and fast paced and it reads more like a novella than a novel. Just as the reader thinks they knew where this is headed it takes another turn that will have them working to figure out just who is behind what is happening and what will happen next.

This is the first book of the very well rated THIRDS series. In this book we get introduced to the main characters, the team, the family dynamics and the basics of how the story and Therians come about. We meet Dexter J Daley and his new partner Sloane Brodie. Dex starts out as a Human Police Force cop, who has to testify against his partner. Then he is basically kicked out and transferred over to a new division. There he meets the team of THIRDS agents that he will be working with. It is quite an adjustment. Sloan has not wanted a partner. He can never replace the one he lost. Since then he has been unfairly cruel to those who have tried to be his partner. Now, with Dex being basically his last chance - and a completely worthy choice - he finally has a partner. They both have been burned and had losses and pain from their past. Making a partnership work, while struggling with trust and attraction issues is not easy. Dex is so open and friendly, everyone just enjoys him right away. Everyone, that is, except for Sloane's own best friend and teammate. Sloane and Dex have an amazing friendship that in turn becomes a great and enviable partnership. The THIRDS series continues and since I love it more reviews are sure to come soon. I find this terrific story of characters and plot wonderful and hard to put down!

Okay, the first time I saw a THIRDS book cover, I will admit I didn’t even deign to read the blurb because I had read one other Charlie Cochet book and it was so weird, I couldn’t get into it. However, so many positive words about it on a group I’m in and I finally gave it a try. And OH, I am so glad I did. Contemporary setting, but it isn’t the today we think about. Half of humanity was poisoned and their bodies changed, turning them into shifters, better known as Therians. With human/Therian relations not being great, THIRDS was created to police the Therian side of the equation – after all, Therians are stronger, faster, and deadlier than their human counterparts. This book had it all. Adventure, suspense, guns, fights, angry Therians, humor, romance, sex, and an insane, yet intelligent antagonist… I will admit, I knew instantly who the bad guy was – but you must realize that 99% of the time I do. And it doesn’t detract from the story for me at all. In fact, it lowers the angst and helps me to keep reading. So, Shifter? Check. Hot men? Check. New York on the verge of war? Sounds like a movie worth watching to me. Oh, Hollywood… I would so pay to see this in the theatre. 5 stars and I’m on to the next one. This is one book I’ve been waiting to read pretty much since its release. But something kept stopping me and now I’m glad I waited. I had no idea there was a cliffy ending. Aargh, I really do not like cliffy books. AT ALL! Luckily, I had bks two and three waiting to be read back to back. Not sure how the rest of you people managed to wait for each book to be published.  This story is based on an alternate universe but not in the future, it starts by giving us a history.  Bio warfare in the 1960’s spread a virus, that virus infected millions, killed hundreds of thousands. A vaccine was found, work great on animals but humans not so much.  Reacted w/human DNA given us Therians, this is a human/animal hybrid.   In the ‘70/80/90’s The mutation correct itself, Therians started living and the government decided we, the people, needed have regulations and laws governing this new species. THIRDS was created. Even though this story has a ton of characters, we focus on two MC Dex and Sloane. Dex, a Human cop, is having a really bad few days, week. And his Captain has decided to give him a promotion of sorts and he becomes a THIRDS officer, his brother and father are already THIRDS officers so he’s okay w/this. Sloane, Dexs’ new boss and partner is not so thrilled. Dex is taking the place of a beloved team member that was killed. The rest of team is wary but soon warm up to Dex. Who is the fun, loving, cheeky, sarcastic character who you can’t help but love? In fact I really enjoyed all these characters.  Sloane has a lot of emotional issue’s going on, that we get a glimpse of throughout the story but he’s a very closed off person and won’t share. The only person that knows is Ash, another team member and his best friend, who hates Dex. This is an action packed story from beginning to end. The ‘who done it’ is pretty obvious from the get go, but that doesn’t take away from storyline. The one liner, quick bards and general camaraderie between all the team members is fabulous and had me smiling pretty much through the whole story. Even though I really enjoyed this story and will be diving into the next two bks asap. I can only give it 4 ½ rainbows and not 5 for three main reasons.  1 – as stated above, it’s a cliffy. There is nothing worse to me than being forced into reading the next bk in a series because the author choose not to wrap it up in the first. Yes, that my personal opinion. But this is my review after all. 2- More importantly, you really want us to believe that two MC (one past, one present) had a loving relationship for 4+ yrs and NO ONE knew about it, really? Really? These are best of the best, elite and they didn’t guess? Yes, I got they are Destructive and not recon but seriously… 3 – How did they just assume Pearce was dead at the end? No one looked for the body? Really? Again best of the best?

This started slowly for me, but once it picked up, I really enjoyed it. There are several fantastic characters. The second one was a five star read for me and I'm looking forward to the third one!
