Hello Kitty isn't just for kids—legions of teens and adults enjoy clothing and accessories featuring the iconic white cat with the red bow. In her first book, Malaysia-based crafter and blogger Lee provides 24 patterns for popular Sanrio characters, ranging from the well-known (Hello Kitty and her family, Chococat, Badtz-Maru) to the less common (Sugarbunnies, Hangyodon, Tabo). Many of the characters include variations or accessories, making them perfect for children's creative play (or for adults to display on their desks at work). The directions are simple and straightforward and there's plenty of room for customization. Basic knowledge of crochet is assumed, although some amigurumi-specific techniques are described. Additional patterns and video tutorials are available on the publisher's website. VERDICT The combination of Hello Kitty (and other Sanrio favorites) and amigurumi seems so obvious—it's a wonder that this book wasn't published years ago. Lee's work could easily inspire devoted Sanriophiles to pick up a crochet hook.

Herb Care
If herbs are wet, leave them in the sun to dry
Always gather fresh herbs when stocks get short
Leave enough of the herb on its plant so it can reproduce when in season
Check herb stores often and throw out all old and weak herbs
Wrap honey in dock leaves (or something similar) with rhubarb to keep it fresh
Use bark strips to finish leaf wrap, or keep herbs together so they stay fresh

This book right here is the main reason I decided I wanted to learn how to crochet. I wanted to be able to make these amigurumi dolls! If you don't already know this about me, you should probably know that I have an extreme love for Hello Kitty and her friends. I collect the stuff! Now, this book is not necessarily for beginners. At least not until you are more familiar with how to read crochet patterns. Once you feel comfortable doing that, you should find this book much more user friendly than you would have otherwise. You also are going to want to know how how to do the magic circle and the single crochet stitch. Over all, I really love this book. It has so many different characters for you to make! Like almost every one in the Sanrio family is in this title little pink book! The one thing that I don't really like about this book is that since a lot of the dolls start with the same pattern, you have to find that pattern in the back of the book...and then return to the character you are working with to make their clothes or accessories. However, marking these pages will make it much easier on you to reference them when you need to! Find more of my reviews here: http://readingwithcupcakes.blogspot.com/
