Overview

Spring break is supposed to be a week of fun in the sun for three childhood friends about to graduate from college. But one of them is ready to get her game on somewhere else. . .

Charlie Castle is an expert archer and a fierce warrior--in her favorite video game, anyway. But college life was a program she couldn't quite master. To land a cybertech job without a degree, she's entering a "hackfest" over spring break--where she also hopes to meet the sweet gamer who's been flirting with her online. Instead, she runs into the hot guy who walked away years ago, and can't fight the desire that comes rushing back.

Jonah Best has never gotten over Charlie, whose kisses were always as deliciously creative as her coding. But now that they're face to face again, he doesn't know how to admit that her online admirer is really him--or how to convince her that he's offering her a job for her incredible skills, not her sex appeal. Can Jonah cut through their communication glitches and persuade Charlie that the next level up for them should be forever?

The world of gaming and Cons has never been so vividly portrayed as it is in this second installment in the Hot & Nerdy series! From the unique participants to the excitement around every corner it's a compelling backdrop to the burgeoning relationship between Charlie and Jonah that first surfaced three years ago but ended abruptly. Where Jonah looks to have this be their first step to forever, Charlie sees it as what happens at the Con stays at the Con as she worries he'll be disappointed if he discovers the truth about her. Charlie was a woman on edge when she and Jonah first met, reeling from her roommate's suicide and looking for revenge against the man who caused the tragedy. Jonah grounded her for awhile but it was clear she was on a path to destruction which he couldn't stand by and witness. In the intervening years Charlie has remained unique in how she approaches life but it's also made her touchy when it comes to how she thinks others see her. In the gaming world she's strong-willed and studious, but in real life she's overly emotional and lacks confidence which was a bit disappointing. It's clear she's letting her past rule her future by keeping her life at a standstill. She's quick to judge and her low self-esteem has her running away from what she really wants but is afraid to admit. Jonah is a strong and sturdy man who's always supported Charlie but knew when he had to walk away to protect his own heart. He's back with a vengeance though and hopes to claim her once and for all if he can just admit his own secrets before it's too late. Jonah wears his heart on his sleeve unafraid to admit what he feels for her. He wants nothing more than to do right by her and in subtle and blatant ways sets out to give her what she's always wanted.....a job catered to her maverick skills and unconditional love. Jonah's every girl's hero as he's sexy, a good listener, and watches over her from afar and I thoroughly fell for him! This was a quick read that dealt with some heavy issues in a casual way. The atmosphere was vividly depicted and made for an exciting and memorable backdrop that I'd love to see again as it's the nerd's version of Las Vegas. The focus of this story was on Jonah and Charlie but there were brief glimpses of her supportive friends to give a hint of what the rest of this series will offer which has me intrigued. Overall this was a fun and flirty story with steamy interludes and a main couple whose connection crackles with sensuality.

A short and sweet New Adult romance, Her Perfect Game was a lovely read that I quite enjoyed. Jonah and Charlie were both great characters. Charlie was very smart, but unsure of herself. Over the course of the book, she grew more confident as she proved herself as a skilled hacker. Jonah was a sweetie who only wanted the best for Charlie, even if she didn't believe it of herself. I really liked both characters. The romance was wonderful. It was obvious from the beginning that, despite the years since their breakup, they were still as infatuated with each other as ever. They just had to admit it to themselves and each other. And they definitely had some chemistry. The plot was good, but I wasn't totally engaged, for some reason. There wasn't anything wrong with the characters or the plot, I just didn't get fully drawn in to them. But, I still enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely. Her Perfect Game was an overall enjoyable New Adult romance that I quite liked. Romance lovers, if you want a quick read, then you might want to check this book out. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

In the first book, we ‘met’ our heroine Charlie only through interactions and discussions that Felicity and Layla had about her unwillingness to leave Boston for spring break.  But Charlie has plans to attend a HackCon, where she hopefully will meet the gamer she has a crush on, who is all too similar to her ex.  Charlie is a bit socially awkward, and for her own reasons, that don’t make sense, she has dropped out of school and her best friends don’t know.  But still, I had to like her determination in entering the contest to win money and recognition for her computer skills. She’s been hoping to meet “Win” at the convention, and she is sorely surprised when Win turns out to be Jonah, the guy who taught her everything she didn’t know about gaming and hacking, and then broke her heart.   The second chance at love worked really well for these two: although not being a gamer, I was  bit lost during the heavily described scenes and matches,  Jonah and Charlie have good chemistry, and the alternating viewpoints as their story is told gives a good sense of the two of them together.  There is some steam as well as a surprise at the end, and this installment in the trilogy holds up well, sure to be a new ‘must read’ author for fans of New Adult romance.  I received an eArc copy from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is the second book in the Hot & Nerdy Series, following Her Best Shot which was released earlier this month.  I did receive the book through Netgalley for the book tour for an honest review.  Charlie is a computer nerd.  She is a gamer and a hacker.  She is also a college drop out who hasn't told her best friends yet. Her decision to go to this "Hackfest" is to show off her talents and try to get a job in the cyber field. Charlie's former boyfriend, Jonah, had no plans to be there. But gets sent by his boss at the last minute. Jonah's company is one of the sponsor's of the hackfest and a presence is required to do some serious scouting. Jonah knows that Charlie will be there since she told her good friend "Win" all about it and invited him to come.  "Win" of course, is none other than Jonah, though Charlie has no clue. Yep, let the games begin. I was super psyched when I saw this series originally because I can identify with the nerd girl label.  This book especially spoke to me as a girl gamer myself, though by no means a hacker.  There was a lot for me to like about this book, including the characters attending a Con, a second chance at love, hidden identities and the friends to lovers troupes.  Additionally, I was impressed that the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) harassment that women in the video game and computer fields have to deal with was addressed.  There was so much to like about this book, that I gave it 4 stars.

Her Perfect Game by Shannyn Schroeder is her second book in her Hot & Nerdy series. This is a novella series about three friends; the first book was about Layla, and in this book, the heroine is Charlie. The background story about gamers, and hackers. Charlie dropped out of college, and hasn’t told her friends. She wants a job, in the gamer field, especially in security, since she is good at hacking. Charlie learned all about how to hack from her ex boyfriend, Jonah, who up and left her three years ago. Charlie wants to go to Vegas gamer convention, and needs to win money at the hackfest she is attending. It is there she runs into Jonah. Charlie finds out that Jonah works for a game production company, as their security expert to make the games hack preventive. Charlie happens to play the game that Jonah is in charge of, and unbeknownst to her, Jonah is Charlie’s online friend, under an assumed name. It doesn’t take long for both of them to rekindle their romance. Jonah regrets walking away years before, but at that time, he felt Charlie needed space to get over the death of a friend. Now he wants more, but will Charlie be able to forgive him or trust him. This was an interesting story, being about gamers and hackers. The romance between Johan and Charlie did heat up the action, but Jonah still needed to come clean with Charlie about why he left her, as well as being the friend online. They were a likeable couple, but personally I did not feel the chemistry between them, though they did have hot sex scenes. It was a nice ending, though a bit rushed. Overall it was a fun, different and fast read.

A good quirky romance. This is a light fun second chance story. Most of the story takes place around a gaming/hacker convention where these two past lovers meet up again. The story did lose me a bit with all the gamer and computer speak. A bit over my head. Overall though it's a good read.
