A tale as old as time, true as it may seem... Her Royal Bodyguard tells the story of Princess Angelina, the youngest royal of the fictional country Mezanno. After a near-miss kidnapping attempt, the princess is smuggled out of the castle to the small town of Tuscora with the head of the palace guard as her protector.  Rico Santori grew up in the royal palace. As the son of a gardener and chef, it was easy to makes friends with the royal children. As he grew older that friendship changed and evolved, Rico always knowing he'd never be equal with a royal. So when he realized his burgeoning attraction to the princess he knew he had to leave. After the kidnapping attempt the two flee to Tuscora masquerading as newlyweds. While there the two deepen their connection, but everything never goes as planned. Her Royal Bodyguard is not a new story but a tried and true formula on romance. There was nothing really special about the book that kept my interest for long. Angelina is pretty spoiled and does her best to get what she wants. Rico isn't that much more likable either. For being the head of a palace guard, he's very indecisive about life. Yes, he made some decisions but he always allowed his attraction to Angelina take precedent over her safety, over his peace of mind. Overall, not a bad book, but it's been done better.
