This was an okay historical read for me. I liked the characters and the story and there is plenty of sexy scenes just wished it wasn’t quite so rushed.

(This review is based on free ARC ebook provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion. No compensation was made/given to this reviewer. There is no relationship/affiliation between the reviewer and the author/publisher.) Folks, I usually love Ms. Haywood’s books, but this one didn’t feel like it was up to her usual standards. The couple got hot and heavy entirely too soon after barely meeting, which made it feel like just an erotic read. It didn’t help the virgin heroine came across as, well, not so virgin at times. The hero wasn’t overly impressive, either. Sure, he sounded handsome and overall was a good guy, but he wasn’t in control of situations when they arose. With two mostly predictable showdowns with the evil bad guy getting the upper hand, I felt this knightly hero was nice but not overly impressive. If you are only looking for a very quick (only has 87 pages), steamy read with an equally quick resolution to the couple’s predicament, maybe this novella will appeal to you. For me, it was overly rushed and lacked a genuine emotional connection between the main couple. Rating: 3 stars. Title: Her Wicked Highlander: A Highland Knights Novella, Author: Jennifer Haymore, Pages: 87, stand-alone, very short novella, VERY graphic smexy scenes that highjacked the storyline, virgin heroine who didn’t always act like one, battle weary knight trying to prove himself to his new boss, heroine is kidnapped/beaten/threatened, some violence.

**Previously published in the CAPTIVATED BY A CELTIC WARRIOR Anthology.** Which is where I read this delightful tale! A Regency Historical Romance. Set in 1817, Scotland Highlands. Book 2.5 (Novella) in Ms. Haymore's "The Highland Knights" series, but it can be read as a stand alone. This is the story of Aila MacKerrick and Maxwell White,(one of the Highland Knights), a legendary dagger (King Richard's), an abandoned castle in the middle of the Highlands, and a cruel, sadistic warload, who will do anything to gain the legendary dagger. A well written, fast paced story. Filled with danger, passion, history, ancestry, and romance. The characters are engaging, realistic and will tug on your heart strings as you set on the edge of your seat hoping Max and Aila will find their HEA. Once again, Ms Haymore has written a tale that is compelling, intriguing and masterfully written! Brilliantly and expertly written to hold any Historical Romance fans, in awe. Well done! "The Highland Knights" is an mesmesmerizing Scottish Romance! I can't wait to read the next installment of "The Highland Knights", "Highland Temptation". The HIGHLAND KNIGHTS series, is as follows: (0.5) A HIGHLANDER'S HEART (novella - Lady Claire & Major Campbell) (1) HIGHLAND HEAT (Lady Grace & Mackenzie) (2) HIGHLAND AWAKENING (Lady Esme & Macleod) (2.5) HER WICKED HIGHLANDER (novella - Aila & White) (3) HIGHLAND TEMPTATION (Lady Emilia & Stirling) Rating: 5 Heat rating: Mild Reviewed by: AprilR
