Tom Halloran come from a past where he was a member of the O’Connell Tunnel gang. He has tried to put his past behind him by changing his name and becoming a New York cop. His past come calling when he discovers a murder where the cause could be same ancient magic that killed his old gang. He knows he must investigate and his path crosses with familiar Cicero. Cicero recognizes him as his witch but does not want to establish a relationship. He knows the two are completely opposite. But Cicero is determined to find his missing friend and discover what killed another friend. If that means working with Tom, then that he will do. As the two become closer and passion flairs, neither knows what to do. Tom feels bonding could uncover his past and Cicero is sure a bonding will be too restrictive. Jordan L. Hawk has built another incredible world for our enjoyment. Tom and Cicero are completely opposite but still drawn to each other. Watching them fight it makes for some great reading as does the opposite. Both men have some decision to make that could jeopardize their relationship even as they realize that solving their case is imperative to the safety of New York. Exciting, with edge of the seat suspense, Hexbreaker should definitely be added to your list. Put it at the top. That is where it should be.

We met Cicero, the fussy, flamboyant cat familiar back in the wonderful "The 13th Hex." In this book he meets his witch Thomas, a patrol officer with the police, who is hiding both his magical talent of hexbreaking and his true background. Their initial meeting does not go well. Cicero thinks Thomas is just a big lug. Getting assigned to investigate two similarly horrific and bizarre murders puts the two of them together. Cicero finds that Thomas might be a big lug, but his heart and compassion for the people around him are just as big. I LOVED these two. They couldn't have been any more different, but they just worked. I loved the 'verse in "The 13th Hex", and this book made that even more true. The plot was complex and tangled, and I loved every word of it. The fact that there will be more in this series makes my heart happy.

She has done it again! Jordan L Hawk is a master storyteller, her attention to historical detail coupled with paranormal flare, has created another amazing world filled with magic, murder, mystery, and love that has strengthened my respect and overflowed the WOW-ness cup I like to think sits in my library. Her Hex World universe may not have quite reached her world of Whyborne & Griffin yet but it is definitely well on it's way. When a series centers on a different pairing for each book, it often takes a couple of chapters for me to get hooked, and Hexbreaker wasn't any different but before I was finished with chapter two, Cicero and Tom had me in a full on can't-put-this-down mode. I am now sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next installment.

A really good read! It has a nice balance between the action, character development, and the (m/m) romance. I'm really looking forward the seeing what else she writes in this series!
