Overview

Eleven years ago, the Co-ed Slayer murdered nine female students on the Oregon State University campus. Lacey Campbell barely escaped his attack, but lost her best friend whose remains were never found. As the sole surviving victim, Lacey helped send the sadistic serial killer to prison for life.

Now a forensic odontologist examining teeth and bones for the state Medical Examiner, Lacey is devastated when she arrives at a crime scene and identifies the skeletal remains as her college friend’s.

The remains are discovered on the land of ex-cop Jack Harper. Sparks fly between him and Lacey, even as they realize that the prosecution’s witnesses from a decade ago are now being murdered one by one. All the evidence points to the Co-ed Slayer as the culprit—only, he’s long since dead. So who’s the new killer? And is Lacey next in line to die?

Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot combines chilling suspense and steamy romance in a gripping tale, uniting in-depth forensic knowledge with a passion for thrillers. Set in the snowy winter of Oregon, Hidden creates spine-tingling chills.

Kendra Elliot's debut work, "Hidden: A Bone Secrets Novel", is an intriguing romantic suspense with plenty of cold hard facts and sparks-fly, steamy sensuality. The perfect combination for lovers of this genre, told by a new voice. Lacey Campbell is a forensic odontologist, a highly experienced, specially trained dentist who uses her expertise to help identify unknown remains and trace bite marks to a specific individual. Forensic odontologists, or forensic dentists, are typically called in to identify human remains that cannot be identified using fingerprints or other means, and also to estimate the age of skeletal remains. They may be called to work on a case by police officers, the medical examiner, or the coroner. When Lacey is called to an unusual crime scene to examine skeletal remains, she is distraught to discover that the bones are all that is left of her college friend Suzanne. More than a decade has passed since Suzanne was kidnapped by the infamous Co-Ed Slayer. Her fate had remained unknown until now, when her carefully placed remains were sure to be found. The property where Suzanne's skeleton was found is owned by former policeman Jack Harper, who left the force after a tragic incident where he was injured. Intelligent Lacey and instinctive Jack are a high-octane combination, complementing and completing each other in unexpected ways. There are those who wish to come between Jack and Lacey, including her unpleasant ex-husband, Frank, and also a former boyfriend, Michael, neither of whom are fond of Jack's increasing importance in Lacey's life. When new murders begin to occur, suspicion is cast in all directions. The Co-Ed Slayer died in prison, so who is playing this macabre game? "Hidden: A Bone Secrets Novel", is a perfect Summer suspense read, and it is also just the thing for a reading "all-nighter". I look forward to more "sensational secrets" in upcoming works by Kendra Elliott. Review Copy Gratis Amazon Vine

This was a wonderfully complex mystery that I just couldn't put down. Lacey Campbell has suffered from survivor's guilt for years since her best friend Suzanne was kidnapped from in front of her leaving her beaten and injured. Her testimony helped convict the Co-Ed Killer who had killed a number of young blond girls and left their tortured bodies to be found. However, Suzanne's body had never been located until Lacey, now a forensic odontologist, is called to the scene when some bones are discovered in the foundation on an aging apartment building. The building belongs to Jack Harper who is a former policeman who left the force because of an injury and who now owns a very successful property business. Jack was also one of the former boyfriends of one of the Co-Ed Killer's earlier victims. But the Co-Ed Killer died in prison. So who is responsible for the buried bones? And who is killing anyone connected with the case in gruesome torture-murders? Jack knows he isn't involved though the real killer is certainly trying to point the blame his way. He falls for Lacey and decides that he has to protect her. Lacey isn't short of protectors. Michael is a former boyfriend turned best friend and an investigative journalist. He is determined to protect her too and willing to throw Jack to the wolves along the way. Is Frank Stevenson the criminal? He's Lacey's ex and the split was very bitter. The story is told from multiple viewpoints. We hear from Lacey, Jack, Michael, the two police detectives who caught the crimes and who also have ties with the old Co-Ed Killer case and trial, and we peak into the mind of the killer and learn how he became the serial killer he now is. The story was very tense and exciting. Watching Lacey and Jack overcome there various issues and fall in love added to the intensity. I strongly recommend this one to lovers of romantic suspense. This is Kendra Elliot's first novel. I will be watching for her next book.

Lacey works in forensics and while working a case the worst thing possible that could happen does. She knows the victim. It was her best friend from college. Her friend who was a victim of a serial killer. Lacey was the only one who got away. Now years later the body is found and all the connections have put Lacey in the spotlight again, but she isn't the only one. Jack, an ex cop and man who dated one of the murder victims, is also brought into the spotlight surrounding a new line of killings. Who is this killer? Wasn't he already caught and killed? Both Jack and Lacey are on a dangerous road.  I'm not big on books like this, but I am glad that I decided to read it. It was definitely a page turner. Lacey is a great character and one that is easy to love and empathize with. The story itself is full of suspense with danger, action, and hints of romance around every corner. I've grown to dislike books like this because they are usually very predictable. This book was not like that. It kept me guessing from start to finish. The book was written very well. I'm impressed and will be reading more of this series....Stormi

Well that settles it, 4 no, 4.5 no um...ah, 5 stars it is. That's how I was feeling towards what rating to give it. It was that good. And I don't give 5 stars often. Mostly 4's but I like to give a book a 5 now and then. The story is this: You have a survivor of a past and traumatic event, now finds missing people by studying the bones and teeth and let's just say, the past comes back to haunt her. And others that were involved. I had heard nothing about this series. The cover caught my eye, the summary sounded pretty good and creepy. Perfect for the Halloween mood. As soon as I started reading, I thought, I don't know if I'll be in the right mood for it. But I kept reading chapter after chapter and started really liking the story, and Lacey, the MC. I liked how we're told that she grew into her own and it shows through her determination in wanting to fight back and not go into hiding but to face her fears. That and well, she has personality, at least trying to do something and I like that about her. And there's Jack. The tension between those two was interesting. Can't have a suspense thriller with some tension you know? And of course the suspense was really good as the writing and the different POV's that go along with it. It didn't bother me at all. I thought it was going to be confusing but I didn't mind the different characters. I am curious as to what the other books will have and who their focus will be. And from what I read for the next one, I'm interested in finding out. A really good start to this promising series.

This is a great start the series, it brings you a captivating tale of a killers out for revenge and the people who he wants the revenge from. This book is written in many different views from Lacey, to Jack, to Michael, to the detectives and to the killer. It all flows very smoothly so it doesn't feel like your jumping around. It has great character development and lets you feel like part of the story. It touches all aspects of emotions, you could be laughing one minute then gasping the next. All in all it's a great start to the series and here's to hoping that the rest of them follow along the same path.

Hidden is the first book in Kendra Elliot's Bone Secrets series and I found it to be an enjoyable debut.  Lacey Campbell is a forensic odontologist and when she gets called in to consult at a possible crime scene her past and present collide in a way she never thought possible. Lacey is the only known survivor of a serial rapist and murderer who, during their encounter 11yrs previous, successfully kidnapped her best friend Suzanne. Lacey was seriously injured during the scuffle but has never fully forgiven herself for not being able to save Suzanne. Clues found at the crime scene soon uncover a startling discovery - people connected to the case are turning up dead and the race to discover whether it's a copycat or the work of a previously unknown partner begins.  Jack Harper is linked to the case in many ways, both in the past and the present. When he arrives at the scene he is instantly attracted to Lacey even though he only see's her from a distance. He soon figures out how she is involved in the case and they are both determined to find out what is going on and who is behind it. Being prepared to use each other for information along the way if they need to. Jack realizes he needs to get to the bottom of it as either someone is trying to set him up or he may be on the killers list of targets. Can he be objective in his journey to discover the truth or will his attraction to Lacey get in the way? Can they work together to help the police get to the bottom of what is going on? Should they even trust each other?  It's an intense journey and Kendra kept me guessing throughout. There was a lot of misdirection and cleverly placed clues to keep you on your toes. I did get confused a little in the beginning until I got used to Kendra's story telling style it was definitely worth sticking with it and I can't wait for the next one! Having the lead character be a forensic odontologist was a nice twist in the beginning, I loved the depth added to the characters via the flashbacks to their pasts. Jacks story in particular was a good one. Reviewed by Michelle M. - Book Monster's Reviewer

If you want a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat you definitely need to read the first book to Kendra Elliot's Bone Secrets Series, "Hidden". Lacey Campbell has been living her life as a forensic odontologist trying to get over what almost happened to her when she was in college. When she is due to examine bones at a scene, she finds out the past is about to come back and haunt her and in fact, the past is still happening. Her best friend, Suzanne disappeared the night Lacey almost got kidnapped by the killer who was stalking female college students at OSU, eleven years ago. They never recovered Suzanne's body, but now after 11 years, the bones that Lacey examined are her best friend's. To top it all off, the killer is on the loose again, or there is a copycat on the loose at least due to the fact the expected killer was just killed in prison. Now the witnesses of the Co-ed Slayer case are being killed off and Lacey is one of those top witnesses since she helped identified the man, but could the killer have had a helper as well. Lacey ends up getting help from ex-cop Jack Harper who happened to have the bones of Suzanne at his apartment complex he owns. He was apart of the case as well back 11 years ago and someone is trying to pin the murders on him or at least that is what Jack thinks is happening. Jack decides help Lacey out and protect her. Of course Lacey has other dilemmas as well with what is going on and even her ex-husband may be a lead suspect of the murders. The biggest mystery of all is if they actually captured the real killer from the murders 11 years ago, or is the actual killer still on the loose. This book was full of mystery and suspense from the beginning. Kendra kept me wondering who the killer was and I had a hard time pinpointing who it was. One thing would make me think it was one certain person and then Kendra would throw me off again. I was getting frustrated, but in a good way. I was determined to solve the case just like the characters were. I really enjoyed the different points of views from each character, even the killer's point of view due the fact it unraveled the past and what actually happened 11 years ago. Lacey Campbell had it hard from the beginning because she found out certain things that she could not even believe happened. She was a strong character though, even when the past was happening again. Especially, when the bones of her best friend were recovered the truth was slowing coming out on what actually happened that night when she was almost kidnapped. Jack Harper was definitely a character who helped Lacey out. He is the one person she turns to when things start getting out of hand and the truth does finally come out. The ending is what makes the readers really realize how much he will do for the woman he loves. He'll even defy the police to save her. This is definitely a book for romantic suspense readers out there. I would listen to it when I could not read it due to running errands or trying to clean up after a one year old because I needed to know what happened next. When I did find time to read it, I would have to shut myself off from the outside of the world, otherwise I found myself snapping at my hubby since he thought it was a good idea to bug me when the book was really getting interesting. He knows now not to interfere now. LOL Kendra Elliot keeps the reader engaged in the story from the very beginning and it feels just like you are there with the characters. All you want to do is help solve the case and bring justice to what is happening to the characters. I also loved the fact, she wrote detailed descriptions of what Lacey's job uncovered when on a case to determine the bones. I have never read a book where a lead character knows so much about dental work and such. I look forward to diving into the second book because I need some more of Kendra's Bone Secrets Novels already. =)
