This book was published 14 years ago and is now back in print. I have read Ms. Alers, Man of Fortune novel and thought it was corny. So I was really skeptical in purchasing this book. I must say I really enjoyed this story. This is the first book of the Hideway series and I enjoyed Parris and Martin story. The characters were well developed and the story kept you interested. A VERY good read, you will not be disappointed.

But I didn't. It started out great! I was so excited to see what would happen and how Parris and Martin would get to where the book starts us out at. I was giddy to find out there was a child between them and looking forward to the sparks I was sure would fly. I was with Rochelle up until they head back to Florida. I just didn't feel like it was realistic and the turn in storyline threw me off. I don't want to give it away for those who haven't read it but it shifts too quickly. On top of that I was confused with Martin's parents reaction to Parris. One minute their kissing her and joking with her then the next minute they detest her and are throwing snide glances her way...which is it?? I was sorely disappointed in this story. I'm finding it very difficult to even finish. I'm on the second to last chapter and, let me tell you, it's a struggle. Also, there were three typos. Lord knows I can't stand a typo. Give it a go if you'd like. I wouldn't recommend this one but I'm sure Ms. Alers has some really great stories out there. I guess this wasn't the one to pick for my first go at her though.

I just read 'Best Kept Secret' and watched Martin Cole grow up,so when I started reading 'Hideway' it held my interest from beginning to end, In some way's I was comparing him with is father Samuel. But the more I read the more I noticed he was actualy a better man than his father. I liked how after Martin found out that Joshua was his Ilegimate brother it didn't make any difference. They were blood and thats all that really mattered. Beside being a loving husband an father, he was a fine man. Parris was the love of his love & no one could take her place. She had powers over him she did not realize. This was one of the best books I have read of Rochelle Alers.

I purchased this book in a rush in 1996 and it completely took me by surprise. The suspense the romance was so thrilling, I put my chores on hold and completed the book in a matter of hours. The following week I took my time and read it again and the same suspense I felt the first time I felt again. It wasnt your typical romance and the mystery kept me glued. When friends come over to borrow books this is the first one I lean, then they're hook and subscribe to the bookclub.
