Perfect for readers of Maya Banks, Monica McCarty, and Sabrina Jeffries, Jennifer Haymore’s seductive Highland Knights series heats up with an electrifying tale of class warfare, fierce loyalties, and forbidden love.
With blood still drying on the front lines at Waterloo, Lady Grace Carrington helps an injured soldier to a British medical tent. Though she believes she’s pulled him to safety, in fact she has put them both in grave danger: Because when his brilliant blue eyes meet hers, the passionate Scottish sergeant kisses her in a way that leaves her breathless and trembling. As the obedient daughter of an earl, Grace shouldn’t be tempted by someone so far below her station. But as a red-blooded woman, she longs for so much more.
As far as Duncan Mackenzie is concerned, getting stabbed in the arm was the best thing that ever happened to him. When he wakes on the battlefield, the sight of Grace’s lovely face sets his soul aflame. As an enlisted man and a farmer’s son, however, pursuing his guardian angel means facing the wrath of London society, not to mention his own superiors in the British Army. Aye, but he’d risk all that and more just to keep her in his arms.

I’ve been reading Jennifer Haymore’s books for a few years now. However, I did not know she released a new series. Honestly, I thought there were still books left in the Duchess of Trent series. It looks as though that series will intersect with this one. The premise of this book is an attraction of unequals. Grace is the daughter of a duke while Duncan is the son of Scottish farmer. They met on the battlefield at Waterloo. Grace has traveled there with her sister, whose story is told in the first book, and is tending to soldiers after the battle. There is an almost instant attraction between Grace and Duncan but both believe they will never see each other again. Fate intervenes when Duncan is chosen to join a secret group of soldiers whose job is to safeguard Britain from internal revolution. Since Grace’s brother-in-law is also chosen, Duncan and Grace are brought together and their relationship is given a chance to grow. This book was an interesting look at class relations in Regency England. Grace is of a higher class than Duncan but they, for the most part, do not let that hinder their relationship. There is the usual angst on Duncan’s part that he doesn’t want Grace to give up the life she is familiar with for him. However, they soon realize that life apart is worse than the trials they would have face to be together. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book and I need to go back and read the first in the series. https://somewherelostinbooks.wordpress.com/2015/10/30/highland-heat/

Great story

This is an excellent second book in the Highland Knights series. It's very different to get a romance between a commoner and a member of the "ton" when the commoner is male and this totally works. The characters and scenery are as vibrant as the Scottish Highlands themselves. The depictions of the battles and the struggles of the men are real and honest. I can't wait to read the next installment of this series.

Jennifer Haymore is a new author for me and I love finding new authors who are amazing storytellers! She keeps your interest with details, great characters and other things that just suck you in and refuse to let go! I was totally captured by the love story between Grace and Duncan. Normally historical romances involve a higher ranked man and in this book it’s the other way around and it was a nice change. Duncan is a very sexy man..But also humble in regards to his station and rationalizing his love for Grace. Grace is an amazing woman and loved reading how she dealt with who she is and what she wants. Just amazing. I will be going back to read book one, because I really want to know more about Lady Claire and Robert Campbell and just because I REALLY liked this author! I will certainly be reading more from her and I hope that anyone that enjoys historical romances gives her a shot as well because it will be worth it! *I received a complimentary copy of the book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Behind the lines loving in the Class Wars Highland Heat brings the class wars of post-Napoleonic Victorian England down to a much more personal level when Lady Grace Carrington falls head over heels in love with Sergeant Duncan Mackenzie. But what starts out as a carefree tryst of exploration quickly becomes a heart-wrenching struggle with what society and family expect versus what the heart demands.Lady Grace has lived her life as the dutiful daughter of an earl. Quite on the shelf, this statuesque lady has no prospects she’s willing to consider and has every intention of remaining a spinster. She’ll live her days managing her father’s household and entertaining his peers. And while all of the ton might consider her staid and haughty nothing could be further from the truth at least not since a certain Sergeant awakened the desire within her. Now she is bent on discovering the joys of the marriage bed without the benefit of marriage. And the more she basks in the attention of Duncan Mackenzie the more determined she’ll become to see them married. Family and the ton be damned. The Unbreakable Mackenzie isn’t feeling so unbreakable these days. Not when he awakens in the middle of a battlefield with an almost severed and broken arm and the most heartbreakingly beautiful angel standing over him. The more he gets to know his beautiful savior the deeper he falls for her. But alas, temptation aside, this is not a romance made in heaven. If they are discovered it could very well mean the end of him in a very permanent way and the ruination of his Grace. One does not meddle in the affairs of their betters, nor do they contemplate compromising the woman they love. Oh, but what he wouldn’t give for the love of such a lass! If the demands of society were not enough, these two will face even greater challenges. Duncan’s new assignment as a Highland Knight will see them embroiled in the very dangerous intrigues of politics and the stirring of rebellion. Things will definitely get much worse before they get better. Highland Heat delivers plenty of steam and heat throughout. A great victorian historical romance, Highland Heat speaks to the political hotbed of the times while bringing the topic up close and personal with the challenges Grace and Duncan face. I would highly recommend it. *****Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions*****

An enjoyable memorable read I love reading a book by an author whose work is new to me and it is even more exciting to find she's a really, really good storyteller. This writer keeps the readers interest with vivid details of the background scenes around the characters and thorough well written characters. Duncan is humble, honorable and strong at the same time. I loved his depth of character and how he rationalizes his love for Grace in regards to their stations in life. Grace's character is the traditional older daughter but with a little kick which comes out throughout the book. I enjoyed watching her thought process as she deals with who she is and what she wants. This book also brings in the characters Lady Claire ( Grace's younger sister) and Robert Campbell from A Highlander's Heart book 1 of this series. I plan to go back and read the other books to the series and I look forward to the next book in the series as well. I give this book 4 stars for being an enjoyable memorable read. Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore Lady Grace Carrington met Sergeant Duncan Mackenzie on the battlefield after the battle of Waterloo. Grace has been combing the battlefield looking for survivors. Duncan is injured when Grace finds him. She helps him back to the surgery tent to be treated for his battle wound. While waiting to be seen, Grace and Duncan talk. Grace finds out Duncan is the son of a sheep farmer, whereas Grace is the daughter of the Earl of Norsey. I liked this story because the hero was not a rich earl of lord. He knew there were restrictions between him and Grace due to the classes. Grace wants him to be her first, but Duncan says her husband should be her first. Duncan has been recruited along with his former officers for a group to do secret missions. To ferret out men who are bent on treason. So now he is on equal footing with Grace and can court her. The only obstacle is Grace’s father. There are quite a few steamy love scenes. I love the story, because there is no drama between the H and h. They love each other and it’s a sweet love story. I was gifted a copy of this book by NetGalley for an honest review.

This is a tale of forbidden love that begins just after the battle of Waterloo and continues as England begins to start recovering from the war. The story centers on Grace Carrington, a wallflower that has accompanied her sister to the battlefield to help her save her marriage. While there she start to nurse injured soldiers, including Duncan Mackenzie, a Scottish Sargent in her brother in law's unit. They are instantly drawn to each other and a great forbidden romance is born. Many things try to keep them apart, but will their love be able to conquer all? This is a well written, sweeping historical romance that features true love, intrigue, and society. I enjoyed the plot and found myself swept away to Regency England. This is book two in the "Highland Knights" series. I have read book one " A Highlander's Heart" but I did feel this is a stand alone book. So don't worry if you have not read the first one, it won't stop you from enjoying this book. Our heroine is Lady Grace Carrington who is somewhat bookish and not as out going as her sister. Grace has gone with her sister to help find her brother in-law. This leads Grace to meet our hero, Duncan Mackenzie on the battle field. They both find a instant attraction and both realize that their different stations would keep them from being together. There is some really good/hot love scene, somewhat alpha male highlander and a really loving heroine. I enjoyed the book and hope that you will too

Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore is the second book in this author's Highland Knights series and was a fine example of finding goodness in bad circumstances. Featuring a refreshingly optimistic hero and a gentle and caring heroine the reader cannot but help feel their special connection. Heart racing drama interspersed with tenderness and love this work demonstrates a well-written and meaningful romance! *I received this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

An great historical romance with an excellent storyline. It tells of a forbidden love between a Lady and a wounded Scot NCO whom she finds on the battlefield after Waterloo. It encompasses the obstacles that she had to overcome in order to marry her true love. I enjoyed this book and gave it a four star rating. I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Ah, forbidden love... That is the theme of this story and of course, the attraction between Lady Grace Carrington, and earl’s daughter, and Duncan Mackenzie, a Scottish farmer’s son, is made all the steamier as a result. Grace thought she’d be a spinster taking care of her father’s household, but discovers love for herself and dares to risk it all to be with Duncan. This is the second in the Highland Knights series that began with a novella about Lady Claire Campbell and the Major. They are featured quite prominently in this story as the story of Grace and Duncan is concurrent with the events that occur in the novella. I liked that Claire and Rob’s story intertwined with Grace and Duncan’s and made the story richer for this connection. Grace and Duncan develop a sweet and steamy relationship and the reader wonders what is going to happen with them. I enjoyed that there was time spent on them falling in love as that seems to always be the end result in a story. Of course, I was eager to see how they would resolve the obstacles in their way. I thought the ending conflict was a bit contrived and quite shocking actually as it seems like scenes in historicals do not typically go as far as this one did in terms of violence. Overall, an enjoyable, readable, captivating story and I look forward to reading about more of the Highland Knights! Thanks to the Publisher for the digital ARC.

This is book 2 in the Highland Knight series. Following her sister to Waterloo, Lady Grace Carrington helps a wounded soldier after the battle. Even after getting him the medical treatment he needs, she can't seem to keep herself away from him, especially after the kiss they share. But knowing their class difference makes it impossible for them to explore their feelings, they walk away from each other. Duncan MacKenzie is saved from the battlefield by an angel. After one taste of her, he doesn't think he can let her go. Knowing that it is for the best, he tries to forget about Grace. But the fates conspire to bring them together and they can't fight their attraction to one another any longer. Can their love for each other survive the many obstacles ahead? I enjoyed this story. As happens in love stories that cross class bounties, the H/H have that struggle on top of everything else they go through to get their HEA. With Duncan also a member of the Highland Knights, there was also mission of go on. It was just the right amount of love story, angst, and mystery to satisfy any reader!

This is the first book I've had the pleasure of reading from this author. I was a little sad when I came to post a review, because I didn't realize that Highland Heat was the 2nd in the Highland Knights series. While I'm OCD about reading books in series order, I'm happy to be able to read Rob and Claire's story without waiting because as I was reading this book I kept thinking about the sister's story. Low and behold it's already been done so I'm excited to go and buy it! Overall Highland Heat was a really good read. There were a few emotional parts that were very well written to the point I teared up a bit, along with a few cheesy parts that made me giggle. Some of the things Grace said to Duncan in regards to how she felt just seemed a bit off to me. I'm not really one for 'love at first sight' so the love relationship between the two main characters moved a bit fast in my option. Other than that is was a great read and I will definitely be reading the others in the series!

Interesting characters make this story a winner! Set just after Waterloo, this story follows a budding romance between an earl's daughter and a Scottish soldier, one forbidden by their different social classes. Duncan and Grace are warm and compationate characters. You root for their HEA from the beginning. Although the story starts out slowly, interest and action build quickly and I found myself reading late into the night. Well worth a few hours of sleep, so pick this book up.

Such a strong connection in such a horrible situation. Grace and Duncan are drawn together on the field of the Battle of Waterloo. Grace is a self-imposed spinster who has escorted her sister to visit her husband, Major Campbell. Grace accidentally finds and helps Duncan get to a doctor. They fall for each other and take their time coming to the realization that they belong together. Their future could be dictated by their difference in status, the dangerous job Duncan has, and the loyalty Grace feels for her father and family. Problems arise, and their love pulls them through. This is the second in a series with more to come. I look forward to the next one by Jennifer Haymore. Her writing is well paced, and I enjoyed the characters and hope to see each and every one find their HEA. I had a chance to read this through Netgalley for an honest review.

Lady Grace Carrington wants to take control of her life. She wants to be more than a social ornament. When she helps an injured soldier after the battle of Waterloo, her life is irrevocably changed. She is attracted to this man as he is to her, but they can never be together. She is a highborn English Lady and he is a sheep-farming Scottish soldier. Can their love triumph? Lady Grace is spirited and stubborn. She has fallen for Duncan Mackenzie, but knows that she must do her duty. He is an honorable man who will fight for king and country. He cares for his English lady and is willing to let her go rather than damage her reputation. I loved when these two were together. I could feel their love and desire. The story is a perfect combination of romance and suspense. I couldn't put this book down until I knew how it would end. I wanted Grace and Duncan to get their HEA. Jennifer Haymore wrote a touching story that was filled with vivid imagery and passionate characters. Just like Grace I fell in love with Duncan. I hope that there are more stories about the Highland Knights.

Lady Grace saves Duncan while searching for wounded on the battlefield and helps him heal from his injuries. As they grow closer they realize because of their social stations, Grace the daughter of and Earl and Duncan the son of a sheep farmer they can never be together, but will love prevail. This was an enjoyable read. I liked the characters and the story held my interest throughout. A wonderful addition to this series. I am looking forward to more.

(read on NetGalley) This is an unusual, and excellent story. Lady Grace has accompanied her sister, Claire, to Belgium so her sister can reconcile with her estranged husband before he goes into battle against Napoleon. They arrive just after the battle of Waterloo, but although Claire’s husband was injured, he will survive. Grace goes to the battlefield to try to help the wounded and encounters the severely injured Duncan, who she helps get to medical aid, saving his arm and his life. Grace and Duncan fall in love, but because she is an earl’s daughter and he is the son of a Scottish farmer, there is no hope for them. Each returns to England where they encounter one another again. and eventually decide to elope, a decision that leads to danger for each of them. How Grace and Duncan finally come together makes for an engaging romantic tale.

A romance story indeed. I just love stories that make me smile and make me feel all giddy and happy when a couple realize happiness has always been in each other's embrace. Grace is a kind woman that has lived her life following the strict rules of the time not because she has to but out of love for her father, who’s an Earl and Member of Parliament. She’s accepted she’ll never marry and will die a spinster because she believes herself too dull and eccentric to make a fine choice as a wife. When she meets the injured soldier Duncan and stays by him throughout his recovery he sees nothing of her self-imposed defects and instead makes her feel as no other had before. Jennifer was able to weave a believable and tender tale of romance with the social inadequacies of the times. The more I read the more I liked the fact that this was a story about conquering one’s fears and not so much an outside enemy. There were no unseen foes trying to destroy their lives; no mystery waiting to be uncovered; no hidden past or tortured souls waiting to be awakened to destroy their current happiness. It was all about the here and now. Granted people that cannot make up their minds and go from “I want you” to “this cannot be” can be a bit infuriating at times but I guess that can be understandable and even forgivable. I wasn’t too happy with the twist the story took towards the end however since it took our main couple to their HEA I’m willing to overlook it and focus on what I liked and I’ll definitely read more by this author. She clearly knows her craft and based on the second characters and subplots of this book she has much more to tell and she knows how to tell it. I will mention I haven't read the first book in the series but I did not feel lost at all so this book can definitely be read as a stand alone. ** I was gifted a copy of this story from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review **

3* The blurb for the book sounded so intriguing. I love highlanders and I'm always up for a good highlander romance. This book provided that with Duncan and Grace, unfortunately it did not provide a good story. I loved Grace and Duncan and the secondary characters and that is what kept me reading. Lady Grace is the daughter of a Earl and Duncan the son of a sheep farmer. They couldn't be further apart in society's standard, but Grace saves Duncan from a possible death and they are brought together in a way that they see each other in a whole new light. They long to spend every moment together but know that it will all come to an end and soon. Not a miracle can help them. I had hope that the story line would get better but it did not. I really liked the characters so I'm thinking of giving the next book in the series a try.
