As with all of Elizabeth Rose's stories, you know you are in for an adventurous and emotional tale. A warrior, Spring Gunn has not grown up with the niceties of life. Although one of the best warriors of her father's Clan Gunn, she has never been treated well by her sire. Unexpectedly, her father decides to marry her off to enemy clansman, Shaw Gordon, in order to get inside his castle walls and basically spy on him. Shaw is a widower with small children and only agrees to marry Spring in order to obtain her weapons that were made by him and his father. Can you image marrying a stranger and being thrown into enemy camp? Spring just wants to be loved and have a real home and feel safe, which she has not felt all her life. As her new life begins, she is torn on what she should do as her feelings start to be engaged by her new family. Full of secrets, betrayals and danger, this story will take you through a web that will make you turn the pages as fast as possible. You will not be able to put it down! This book was gifted to me.

Cromwell Gunn, who hates the Gordons, and most other Highland clans, sees an opportunity to defeat them and take Edinvale Castle when he discovers that Laird Shaw Gordon seeks a wife. He decides he will offer his daughter Magna Spring. Once the two are married, his obedient daughter will find the weaknesses in the castle defenses and provide information for the Gunns to take the castle. How could such a simple plan possibly go awry? That’s our story. Spring has been lied to all her life. She believes herself a Gunn, a descendent of Vikings. All Spring does know is that she is uncomfortable and doesn’t want to raid and kill (nor do her brothers). She wants love. Although she married Shaw as a means to help her father, she sees the possibility of a different life with Shaw and his children. She also discovers that she may not be a Gunn after all, but one of the children stolen from the Douglas clan in a raid years before. When the time comes, will she betray Shaw or Gunn, or will she find a way to peace between the clans? The well-constructed complicated story follows Spring and those around her as she learns who she is, what she wants, and where she belongs. It is a tale of deceit and betrayal, of secrets and lies, and of discovery and love. The characters in this story are well developed, some new, and some already familiar. Spring and Shaw are great together. Gunn and his crew are strong, but that strength is evil, not honorable. The secondary characters flesh out the story. The children are instrumental in the changes we see in Spring as the story unfolds. Nairnie’s part in the story is essential and adds a little humor. There are twists, turns, and surprises all through the story, but the biggest and best is at the end. Another great story from Elizabeth Rose.

The Stolen Sister An enjoyable story about a young woman whose whole life has been based on a lie and has never been allowed to be anything but a stoic warrior. How she copes with being suddenly married and a surrogate mother and her conflicting emotions; torn between old loyalties and new. I have been waiting to find out what happened to Spring who was stolen as a baby from her family and I was not disappointed. Recommended read. This book can be read as a standalone but features characters from other books. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to give an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
