You wouldn't think that a story about a bunch of kids who are learning to play and become masters of an ancient board game called GO would be interesting but it is. The characters and the relationships between them are deep and sophisticated. There are a number of rivalries that play themselves out from episode to episode and a number of cliff hangers. The kids grow up throughout the series and and learn some difficult lessons. This particular volume is a bit more than halfway through the series I think. I've read many different manga series and this one has one of the most unique subjects and stories. Give it a try.
