Tim Homan has done it again! This trail guide stands alongside his other Hiking Trails series titles (North Georgia, Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock and Citico Creek Wildernesses, Cohutta and Big Frog Wildernesses, and Southern Nantahala Wilderness) in opening an area up to easier access. I was familiar with the Benton MacKaye Trail, but maps were not easy to obtain. In this guide Homan not only has excellent maps, but also helpful trail landmarks and observations of local flora and fauna. This guide also includes elevation profiles¿a great improvement over just describing a trail as ¿easy¿, ¿moderate¿ or ¿strenuous.¿ The fold-out overview map inside the front cover is an especially nice touch. I¿ve use Homan¿s Hiking Trails guides for many years and have never had a problem with route directions, and have always enjoyed the history and observation he provides. With this book there is even more detail on the history of the trail, the man it was named for, and the geology and forests of the trail. This is a terrific guide to one of North Georgia¿s best kept secret trails!
