There may not be a better example of the bodyguard trope in romance than the classic Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner movie. Count on Lorelei James to create a book that goes toe-to-toe with a movie – and might even top it. Hillbilly Rockstar is the name of it, and it's the newest entry into her Blacktop Cowboys series. I suspect that we've met both Liberty Masterson and Devin McClain in previous Blacktop novels. I'm a shameful James fan and haven't read more of the series. But it doesn't matter, as this is the novel in which they both get to shine. The premise is classic. Devin's got security issues, and his people hire Liberty's people. I mean, hello? How else can this storyline get started? We know this about the bodyguard trope. There's not a lot of way around it. The magic here is what happens once the two start working together, Liberty pretending to be his personal assistant and not minding – much – the sneers of a band who think they know better. Blue streak in her hair or no, Liberty's no groupie. So the story is really about how their romance comes about. In fact, Devin's security threats are almost a second thought as the story unfolds, and that's perfectly okay. This isn't meant to be a romantic suspense, which it would become if the threat to Devin was more serious. Really, what can you say? It's delicious watching Liberty and Devin fall in love. If anything, I'd argue this is more Liberty's story than Devin's; she's the rounder, more real character. There's further for her to go before she can overcome her past scars. From clothing to career to learning to care, this is her journey. Devin, he just has to quit with the groupies – which he has – and take care of his band. Which he, largely, does. He has that over-the-top charisma that makes a really good rock star, and it's tempered with more than a streak of introvert to him. But this means there's also less of a path for him to follow in order to grow; at the end, he's not much different from the man he was at the beginning. But oh, who cares? I mean, we could make that same claim about Kevin Costner, right? Where Hillbilly Rockstar gains the edge, though, is the racy stuff. Woo whee, this is author James' strength. I know there are hordes of readers who pick up her books just for her knowledge of the fun stuff that can transpire between a man and a woman in a bedroom, and it's hard to fault them for that. James is an author who can create amazing characters you'd like to have populate your real life. Her settings are fully researched – I can't find a single fault with the rock and roll details in Devin's life (although I did have a few questions for my cadre of experts, especially about the venues as the tour progressed) – and the plotlines plausible. Really, why this woman isn't on the best-seller lists – all of them, and for months and years on end – I don't know. Then again, when I look at some of the drek that does make it, well, there's no accounting for taste. Skip those. Spend time with Lorelei James.

This is not a cowboy story but it is about a country boy turned Country Rockstar. It is a nice addition to this series of Blacktop Cowboy by Lorelei James. Devin, the singer, had been mentioned in the other stories and I always wondered what his story was. Liberty, ex-veteran now bodyguard, was only briefly mentioned in a few stories but her story needed to be told. These two have mad sexy chemistry and are not your typical couple. This is a stand alone story but it does help to read the other stories in this series. Now, I can't wait to hear Bailey's story Enjoy..

What a great story. When Devin is forced to take on extra security for his country music tour Liberty is thrown into a world unlike any she has ever known. Coming out of a military career that ended in injury Liberty has never been one to care about her appearance but with remarks that Devin made and the fact she must change to fit in she calls her sister to help her out. Devin is a handsome playboy that feels bad for the way he treated Liberty but he is less than thrilled about having extra security and especially when Liberty will be staying on the bus with him. The chemistry that develops between them is sexy and hot. Especially since the less than stellar way things started out between them. But when Devin gets the first look of the transformation Liberty has gone through to fit in more he is left speechless. He knows he shouldn't get involved with her but she is different than any woman from his past. Liberty is a strong woman and I love the fact that she made Devin work for it when it comes to their relationship. Great storyline and it kept me interested from the very beginning. It was funny...mysterious...and had a bit of suspense. Great addition to this series. I love Lorelei James and what she does with this series.

Country music star Devin McClain has all the trimmings that go with success. Yes, he’s talented and succumbs to the roadies and booze, but he goes home alone. Some threats and so-called accidents are accelerating that cause Devin to require a bodyguard. He hires the best security agency in the business and asks for their best agent. When their best turns out to be a woman, Devin is uncertain until he hears Liberty Masterson’s qualifications. She’s former Army with a tough reputation. He’s still uncertain to have any woman by his side 24/7 until he looks beneath her rough façade. Devin decides she’ll act as one of his groupies that he’s hired as his personal assistant. Liberty undergoes a complete makeover to complete her transition and floors Devin. He plays it smart and doesn’t let her see his reaction, not realizing Liberty has feelings of her own. Their proximity living together in his tour bus feeds a mutual attraction; the couple surrenders to the sexual pull. Despite everyone’s vigilance, the violence escalates with some narrow misses. As Devin spends more time with Liberty, he wonders if she’s thinking about a future together. Ms. James has done it again. Her success continues with the sixth entry in the Blacktop Cowboys series. This can be read as a standalone although some characters from other books do appear in minor roles. Treat yourself to those books because they’re worth reading. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an erotic story that also has a tender union of an unlikely couple.

Hillbilly Rockstar is Book 6 of the Blacktop Cowboys series by Lorelei James. I've read most books in the series but not all and none of them in the "correct" order. These stories stand alone just fine so no worries if you end skipping around like me. This story drew me in right from the start and didn't let go. Great interactions and chemistry between Devin and Liberty. I enjoyed the premise of Liberty as Devin's body guard. She was one tough cookie. Very enjoyable and one I definitely recommend.

This was my first book in this series, mainly because it was on sale. I was not disappointed wih this story....it had everything thar I love in a good story, plus it was fairly long. However, I refuse to pay the cost of the rest in the series. Paying more than $5 or $6 for an electronic book is just ridiculous...not worth it.

Setting "The Bodyguard" on it's ear, Liberty directs Devin to keep him safe during his tour. Devin take the upper hand in their love life, allowing Liberty to relax. Until she takes tge reins back for some energetic sex play.

I won this book in a Goodreads contest and am thrilled to review it. Lorelei James is a new to me author but I will be reading more of her books. Hillbilly Rockstar is a story of alpha male meets alpha female. Devin is a famous country singer who is in danger from an unknown source and his promotion company hires a bodyguard. Liberty is former military and now a bodyguard assigned to protect Devin. Their personalities clash, sparks fly which leads to some hot, steamy sex scenes. Their relationship grows with all the time they are together but at the end of the tour, they must decide if what they feel is enough to continue into permanence.

Another great love story you wont want to end. Devin is the perfect bad boy country singer that you just know has a heart of gold. While Liberty has hardened herself on the outside until she melts for Devin. Do yourself the pleasure of escaping into this sexy, hot adventure you'll want to read over and over!

I absolutely LOVE and trust everything Lorelei puts out. Her writing styles from her western/cowboy to her fighter/mma is remarkably different. However, amazing at the same time. It takes a brilliant writer to be so diverse in her styles.

Lorelei James gives us Devin's story as the Rockstar he has become. We get to know the middle Masterson sister, Liberty as she starts her life out of the Army. Two lonely souls need each other. We get to go back to Muddy Gap and visit. This is a great story for the Blacktop Cowboys series Thanks Lorelei & Good Writing

If I could give this book no stars I would. I'm no prude, but this book can only be described as trash! I didn't even finish it because I could not get past having to read the F word repeatedly. With the language and vulgarity in this book, Lorelei James should head over to the porn industry where she belongs!

A story of protection & complex emotions surrounding issues of loss & love. While not my favorite book in the "Blacktop Cowboys" series, I enjoyed this story immensely. Talk about 2 opposites being pulled to attraction - hot, hot, hot!

OMG all of her books keep getting better and better. Love them all and this one is simply the best. I like the way she brings back other people from her other books . She knows how to put the right amount of hot with a really good story.
