I would certainly recommend 'His Lordship's Apprentice', especially if you're new to domestic discipline fiction and/or prefer softer scenes. Whilst this is probably the most 'tame' book I've ever read in this genre, it's refreshing to see the heroine treated with such love, there is definitely no non-consensual action here (aside from in one scene but it is NOT from the hero and the culprit is switfly dealt with!). I love the setting (Harry Houdini even makes an appearance or two) and the premise, and would have given it 5 stars but there were a few mistakes which jarred me and took away my enjoyment somewhat. Having said that, if you like a good 'rags to riches' tale, with lots of love, affection and some spanking thrown in, you'll really enjoy this one.

I loved it from start to finish! Set in Victorian England, Lord Hardcastle (and really, shouldn't every spanking hero's name have the word "hard" in it?) a lord and celebrated magician, takes his scullery maid on as his apprentice. This is a light, playful story with amusing scenes of mischief and delicious spankings.  Violet, the heroine, is charming with plenty of pluck. Neither wimpy nor bratty, she has courage and stands up for herself when necessary, but accepts the cane from her master when necessary.  It has a fairy-tale romance quality, packed with humor and delightful, entertaining characters. I highly recommend this book!

I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy and I wasn't too sure I was that excited about it. I think I was put off by the Magician storyline, but I am soooo glad I read it! I found the characters all to be very engaging. The story was very sweet, entertaining and just plain fun to read! It had plenty of good spankings and I loved the scenes in the beginning when Lord Hardcastle finds Violet in such interesting predicaments! Her language had me laughing out loud! This was just a great story. If you like to be entertained and you like spanking, this is a book that would be well worth your time.

This story was a very pleasant surprise. When Violet's father Tom, is injured in a fire, she gives up her job and heads home to care for him. Shortly thereafter her family decides that Violet needs to find a new job while her Aunt cares for her father. Violet gets a job working as a scullery maid for Lord Hardcastle also known as the Marvellous Marvelo. One evening Lord Hardcastle has a dinner party that includes some of his famous friends. Violet begs her friend, Franny the parlor maid to allow her to clear the dishes so she can see the Marvellous Marvelo. When Violet enters the dining room she is disappointed to find that they have already left. She begins clearing the dirty dishes but there is a big covered platter in the middle of the table. If it was food, it would have been uncovered during dinner. But if not food what could it be? As Violet lifts the cover to find out, a white dove flies out. Violet lets a few choice word fly as she sets about catching the bird. She is very gentle as she climbs and reaches for the bird who hops right into her hand and stays as she carries it back to the platter where it hops right back on and Violet quickly returns the cover and calls the bird a name that would shame her mother. To her horror, she looks up and discovers that she is not alone but Lord Hardcastle and two of his guests have witnessed her shocking language. She is sure that after only two months she is about to be fired but that is not Lord Hardcastle's plan. He offers her a choice, forfeit a days pay or submit to a spanking. She needs every penny to send home for her father's care so she chooses the spanking. This begins a relationship that grows from servant to colleague to romantic interest. There are some wonderful characters in this story. I loved Violet and Lord Hardcastle. They were people I would chose as friends as they were authentic and sincere. I also liked that Mrs Davenport was an unexpected friend to Violet.

This was a different kind of Domestic Discipline story. First of all, Violet is a commoner. Her uncle got her the job of scullery maid in a Lord’s house. She has been working there for 2 months. Then, Lord Hardcastle comes home. He has been on a tour as a magician. Violet talks her friend Fanny into letting her clear the table so that she can get a look at the Lord. While clearing, she lets his trained dove loose and she scrambles to capture it again. While climbing furniture, she lets loose a lot of foul language. Once she has the dove captured again, she noticed the Lord and his friends watching her. She flees thinking that she is going to be let go, without a recommendation. But, the Lord calls her to his study and he spanks her and then canes her. All of this occurs over her uniform. And, this is the start of Violet being noticed by James. This is really not a story of a magician and his assistant. It is more a story of two people of very different backgrounds falling in love. As this is a story, I will suspend my disbelief of this ever happening. There are many spankings in Violet’s future by James, Lord Hardcastle. I would really like this to be a longer book. I would like to know more about Violet’s and James’ background. I would also like to know more about their courting. But, I really enjoyed the story. I do recommend it.

This is a clever story with a plot line that I hadn't read before. Lord Hardcastle's character is one of a strong, refined gentleman who has a good sense of humor as well as knowing what he wants. Violet. a scullery maid in his home, comes to his attention when she inadvertently releases a dove that he uses in his shows. She is frightened that she is to be dismissed and surprised when given the option of being punished instead. The two characters are perfect for each other and their attraction leads to her becoming his assistant in his shows. There are spankings involved but none are undeserved (or unwanted!) If you like a good read without a gentler approach to discipline, you should enjoy this book.

I was surprised by this book but in a good way.   There is a good story here and I enjoyed it.   I liked Violet's character, despite her hardships in life she never loses her spirit.   Lord Hardcastle is unconventional and the two make a good pair.   Well worth the read!!  I received this book from Blushing Books Publishing as an Advanced Reader Copy.
