The SC 7th Cavalry Regiment was organized in March, 1864. They served in General Martin Witherspoon Gary's Brigade and were involved in various conflicts south and north of the James River and around Appomattox. They surrendered with 22 officers and 398 men.

The five Companies comprising Holcomb's Legion S.C. Cav, (Cos. A,B,C, D, E) were with five Cos of S.C. Cav. commanded by Captain J. H........, W. L. Wallace, S.M. Boykin, W.L. ???????, J.J. ..... formed into a Regiment. called the 7th SC Cavalry.
