For those who are trying to get into any kind of house, techno or just modern dance music in general, I'd highly recommend this as a great place to start. Before finding out that Kevin Saunderson (1/3 of the somewhat well-renowned Belleville Three, which also include Juan Atkins and Derrick May, the DJ 1/2 of the dance-pop/house/techno duo Inner City w/Paris Grey and a soloist who recorded and released material under several aliases) had a new compilation coming out a few months ago, I had once again been wishing that the Faces & Phases 2-disc set were still available (or reissued already). I wasn't sure if I'd actually be willing to sort of take a chance on this new one. But after hearing snippets and full tracks of this from various music sites, this makes up for the other Saunderson CD set I've been wanting to get and now I think this one is just as good, if not better. He should be the first (or just one of the first) dance DJ whose works y'all should check out. This makes sense, considering he's among the earliest classic/Detroit techno acts and pioneers in the sub-genre. This is mostly a remix anthology, with the first CD containing songs by other acts remixed by Saunderson while the second contains tunes by Saunderson remixed by other acts. There are some remixes that I really feel for more than others, like the Reese's Revamp Remix of Cameo's "Money", which borrows from the tune of Saunderson's "Velocity Funk". Another nice touch is that a few of the remixes on disc # 2 feature different versions of the songs before bringing back their original versions midway, then back to the remixes again. I think this dance DJ/producer/remixer is my favorite of the Belleville Threesome, because he's had such an interesting career as a group member and solo artist under various stage names, and he really does make some of the hardest, most mechanistic techno music (which is the best) coming out of Detroit. There are no gripes here. Makes for great party music from start to finish. If there isn't anyone out there who hasn't checked out his stuff already, then I implore y'all to do so, y'all won't regret it, definitely a top-notch, Motor City sound, some of which is.
