An immense amount of work has been done since the 1950s on all aspects of the subject--social, political, economic, and military--but this material (much of which is available only in German) has not hitherto been brought together and interpreted within the limits of a single volume. H.W. Koch now fills the gap with this comprehensive history of the Prussian state.

Having studied German history in college, I can say that this work proves to be one of the most significant sources for understanding the present German state, as well as the German mentality. If it is true that the German nation was born out of Prussia(and it is), then this book provides the reader with much information to help better understand the German characteristics.
If you have a yearn to know the development of Prussia, wars, politics this is a great book to read. It kept my interest throughout the entire read.
