This book was outstanding. It's very interesting in a way that it's demented, disturbing and just all out scary. I bought this book because I saw the cover and it looked very intriguing. I love history and was interested to know more about some important people. However, reading this book continuously in one sitting is a terrible idea because it leads to a mental breakdown, especially reading about the section that has to do with WWII and the holocaust, the people involved and i guess just the 20th century itself. The pictures are very daunting and still bother me a month after reading it. I had trouble sleeping after reading this book because it's death after death after poisoning after rape and etc. This is not for the weak minded. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Overall, it is a very interesting book and for those who like torture and torment this is the book for you. but again...beware of the conscience consequences.

I was somewhat put off in buying this book because of the cover seeming to be sensational. However, after several quick read-throughs I decided to buy it. I have found it to be very historically accurate, which is of the utmost importance to me, and I like the balance that the author has chosen: presenting the facts but adding just the slightest touch of humor or sarcasm without dishonoring the person he is writing about. The artwork/photographs are outstanding, the quality of paper is excellent, the length of each article is appropriate and balanced with long and short writings throughout the book.

This book was truly entertaining. History's Monsters was very gruesome, and exploited history's darkest, most evil beings. Any one who reads this book will definitely learn something. Whether you are reading about Adolf Hitler, Gengis Khan, Gilles de Rais, Jack the Ripper, or Osama bin Laden, you will always be intrigued and reading something you've never read before. The Monster's in the book range from dictators, to criminals. One aspect i really thought was interesting was that how evil anyon ecould be. For instance, Gilles de Rais. He was a wealthy aristocrat and grew up in a wealthy royal family. He was a church going man and went to confession regularly. But in his castle he would perfrom grisly acts of rape and murder, then go to church the next day. Or just the amount of Popes, or Anti-Popes, that were in this book. This realization of evil being able to infect anyone really astounded. Once I picked this book up I just could not put it down. The evil and malice within these people keeps your nose in the book for sure. I read every page in one night, and i have no doubt you will too if you purchase this book. Simon Sebag Montefiore has done an incredible job displaying in this book the most evil people to ever live. If you have an interest in the darkest people or aspects of history, you need to buy this book.

I havent read the book, but I did buy it for my dad. He is very hard to please but told me this book was so good he couldnt put it down. That works for me. Now he is asking for a companion book that goes with it about heros instead of the villians... Its nearly fathers day so I am looking for it!
