About the Author
Charles E. Harrar is a genealogist who has traced his family tree back to 400 A.D. He enlisted in the US Merchant Marine in late 1944, serving in both Altantic and Pacific War Zones, and was awarded the Victory Medal. After he was honorably discharged in 1945, he re-entered service in the US Navy in 1951 as Aviation Boatswain Mate First Class and leading petty officer aboard the USS Mindoro, again honorably discharged in 1955. A fully trained firefighter and firefighter-trainer for the Department of the Army, he retired in 1980; he has since contributed free instruction and expertise in genealogy to the Tactical Air Command, US Air Force. He is a life-long member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Civil Air Patrol and certified pilot, and a past President and active Lifetime-Member of the Tucson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for the past 39 years and has most recently been awarded that organization�s "Patriot Medal". He and his wife Marie-Luise Emmenthal Harrar reside in Tucson, Arizona.
Terry Reish is Associate Professor of German at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan, where he has taught German language and literature since 1988. He received a B.S. in Education/German/French from Millersville University, PA, an M.A. in German from Pennsylvania State University, and his Ph.D. in German from the State University of New York at Albany. He has also taught at both the secondary and university levels in Germany (Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg). His specialties include Exile and Holocaust Studies, and he has published several studies of Austrian exile-author Franz Werfel.
