Clara has spent years believing Gio is dead. Unbeknownst to her, Gio is very much alive and has been climbing in ranks in the mafia family that was run by her father. Clara notices some strange things happening around her and thinks that maybe Gio has returned but brushes the thoughts off as being ridiculous. Clara's instincts were correct and Gio is most definitely alive and has come for her. Clara loved Gio as a boy but is having a hard time coming to grips with the man Gio is now. Gio tries to tell Clara he is not a good man and he does treat her like a prisoner most of the time. Clara does not want to be involved in the mafia any more and is keeping a secret about what her father did to her from everyone. When the truth comes out and a danger presents itself, Gio is left feeling devastated. Clara has to find the strength to get him to see that he is the boy she loved underneath, along with the man she loves now. It was well done and flowed well. I liked how Skye Warren built up the suspense so you never quite knew what Gio was thinking or planning.

I liked this book. It was nice to revisit these two key characters, Clara and Gio, and see what would happen between them when given the chance. The book takes place eight years after Tough Love and we get reintroduced to Clara, who’s settled comfortably into a safe, college life. She’s an artist rendering the vision of her lost love in everything she does. I do wish Clara was a bit stronger, given all that she’s been through. Perhaps, it was Honor’s (Clara’s older sister and my favourite hero of the Stripped series, as she is perfection) encompassing, protective love that shielded her from that part of herself. I can only guess. For a time she has a typical douchey jock boyfriend that she knows quite resoundingly is no good for her. Then she gets whisked away by the ghost of true love past. But he isn’t like the boy she remembered, the one that she loved desperately, the one she thought she lost. He’s a hardened soul. The kind that reknits itself back together after it’s broken into pieces. I would’ve like to have learned more about what he endured over the last eight years, so I could have better understood his choices and his rise to prominence. Maybe even see some of Clara’s memories through his eyes as he watched over. Even as this changed man, he still had a small sliver of the boy he was, and that first love sustained him as he charted through his maze -- i.e. chosen career path. That sliver was very powerful. The fact that he was her guardian angel and love her the entire time she was haunted by him, was incredibly romantic. The fact that he preserved his heart and his body was sweetness beyond words. Not sure if this was the end of the series, but if it was it has been wonderful to see how our girls turned out and got the lives they deserved.

An incredible second chance romance! Former mafia princess, Clara, has escaped the maria rule thinking the man who saved her, the love of her life, Gio, is gone... When he suddenly reappears from the dead, taking her back to the life she ran from, she struggles to find a glimpse of the man she once loved. I'm truly struggling writing this review as this story was incredible, characters you can feel and a plot you just can't turn away from. Slightly dark yet full of romance and heartbreak. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended as are all of Skye's books!!

It was wonderful to catch up with Clara and Gio!! We first met them in Tough Love and I, for one, am thrilled to read the rest of their story!! The story sucked me right in and made my heart race!! I really thought Gio was a jerk, but by the end of the story I was hooked!! Reading the eloquent words of Skye made me feel like I was that fly on the wall watching it all happen in front of me. I suggest you read Tough Love first (it's free) but it's not a must, it just gives you a wonderful background of how Clara and Gio fell in love and what happened to separate them. So I highly recommend this book and I really hope you do yourself a favor and buy it!! This book is VERY well written and a treat to devour!!
