You are in for a freshly pulled, candy cane sprinkled steaming cup of java fun. This mystery is a real treat for a cozy night. Cleo Coyle’s Holiday Buzz whisks us back to the Village Blend, a welcoming coffee house inviting us to order the daily special, munch off the head of a gingerbread cookie, and take part in a cleverly devised murder mystery. I have read this entire series and each new release is surprising, well paced, and filled with scrumptious delights. Sure, there is a murder mystery to solve. Yes, there are clues cleverly planted in strategic places. (How does Coyle do that so well?) We are also gifted with holiday bustle, warm friendships, baked cookie aromas, and freezing New York winds. The descriptions flow and blend so well that I was sure I felt snow on my face. Our main character, Clare Cosi, not only is smart, headstrong, and makes her own pancake syrup, but she can fit into a dumbwaiter, and can intentionally skate backwards right into a pile of hockey sticks. Mike is cuddly, strong, and rather fond of handcuffs, and their relationship is sweet without sending us into diabetes. The moment I read that Madame was going undercover at the Evergreen Recreation Center, I found myself grinning in anticipation. I love Madame. I wish there were more scenes with her. There are also new characters introduced, and returning friends are given enough scenes to add background and depth to their stories. As Clare gets deeper into trouble and uncovers more evidence, my chuckles turn to gasps and, once again, I am reviewing my list of suspects. Then it happened. I sadly realized that in a few more pages I have to leave the Village Blend. Although the murders are solved and the book closed, I am left with a warm chocolate brownie feeling sprinkled with crushed candy canes and holiday cheer. Hurry with the next one, Ms. Coyle!

Delicious and delightful! I have enjoyed all the books in this series. They are fun, well written, and leave you guessing. This one has the addition of a "No! Don't go in there!" scene like your favorite old movie. The food references (and recipes) are an added bonus. Beware the saliva dripping off your chin. I just wish there were a coffee house that served such wonderful things near me.

This is the 12th book in the Coffeehouse Mystery Series by Cleo Coyle. I discovered this series a little over 3 years ago and have really enjoyed how all the characters have grown and evolved. All the stories in the series are set in New York City, specifically the West Village area at the Village Blend Coffeehouse.  Clare Cosi manages the coffeehouse, with her ex-husband, Matteo as their world wide coffee buyer and owned by his mother, Madame. Clare and Matteo have a grown daughter, Joy who is at culinary arts school in France and having a long distance relationship with a NYPD police detective, Emmanuel Franco. There is a great cast and crew at the Village Blend that brings art, drama and youth to the old building. Throughout the series we have seen Clare form first a friendship and then a relationship with NYPD Detective Lieutenant Mike Quinn. Mike is currently working for the US Attorney's anti-drug task force in DC. The entire series feels very much like great episodes from a long running tv drama. A great cast of characters, some romance, some drama, and enough mystery to keep you coming back for more. The series involves Clare finding dead bodies and becoming drawn into the investigations to solve them. But there is so much information on coffee and the wonderful recipes that surround coffee and coffee drinks, that you can't help but want a try them out. Thankfully the author includes recipes for many of the wonderful creations that show up in the books.  This has been a wonderful series, and the characters keep me coming back for more. I love how the romance between Clare and Mike has spanned the entire series, how they went from acquaintances to friends to lovers, slowly and with great thought and care. This is a series where the relationships between the characters are as much a part of the storytelling as the actual plot itself.  This book gets 4 stars on Goodreads, because it is another solid book in the series that furthers the characters and continues to bring a fresh take on coffee, food & murder. I can't wait for the next one and to find out what is happening with the Village Blend gang. Tune in for the next episode!

My only problem with "Holiday Buzz" is now I have to wait awhile for the next one. This was like all of her mystery novels fun to read and hard to put down. Thank you Cleo Coyle for another great mystery.

Clare Cozy and almost all of our favorite Village Blend Coffeehouse characters are back in a holiday mystery while they are celebrating with cookie events with cookies from around the world.  Moirin is a new young Irish employee that everyone enjoys.  She bakes the cookies for the coffeehouse, but actually works at the bakery that developed the cookies.  She's a music lover too, but sadly, she's bludgeoned to death at a cookie festival event.  Clare found her body and is determined to find her killer with a little help from her boyfriend, family, and her baristas.  I love this series for so many reasons.  The Cleo Coyle writing team always adds numerous interesting facts, local information, and yummy sounding recipes to their mysteries. In this one, there are added characters that are a take off from reality TV that are a laugh and a half.  The mystery is compelling with clues on every page. We also hear more and more about Clare's love life with her, Detective Mike Quinn, who is on a secret duty in Washington, DC. One of my very favorite cozies done in audio. The spoken accents add so much to my enjoyment of this series.  Looking forward to the new one in this series coming in November 2014.

You’ll like it if You want a mystery that leaves you feeling as warm and happy inside as a cup of cocoa (er, coffee) You love a Christmas-themed cozy You know the streets of New York City like the back of your hand (or wish you did) It’s Christmas and Clare Cosi is back at the Village Blend. To celebrate the season her pastry-chef friend Janelle has agreed to supply lots of Christmas cookies and other holiday treats to fill the display at the coffeehouse (and we share in the wealth with the recipes in the back!) and her baking assistant to help with the rush. At a holiday party in the park, the young baker is found dead. But who could have done it? And who would want to? No one seems to know much about her, Clare will have to do some serious digging into the girl’s past. Could her status as an illegal Irish immigrant or her ex-rocker landlord have something to do with her death? And what’s her connection to two reality TV stars and a professional hockey player? Clare has to sift through a lot of secrets to get to the truth. This was an excellent new installment in the beloved Coffeehouse series! It didn’t become my new favorite, but it certainly didn’t disappoint. I love Christmas and cozies, put them together and I’m one happy girl. Cleo Coyle is so good at giving tiny clues and plenty of possibilities throughout her stories. All the little details fell into place in the end and while I’d narrowed it down to just a couple of suspects, there were enough twist and turns to keep me guessing until the murderer was revealed. The Real Mystery: Is there a wedding in Clare Cosi’s future?
