Although it is included as a Hercule Poirot mystery, the Belgian detective is not a central element. Oh, he resolves the murder mystery but the other characters make up the story. This book is another fine example of Christie's ability to create fully developed and sympathetic characters. Poirot, though, puts those "little gray cells" to work and the murderer is found out.

This is her best Poirot novel, not because of Poirot but her development of the characters is so realistic and detailed and the plot was fantastic. I will re-read this one again and again!

I thought I had read every Hercule Poirot book written by Dame Agatha Christie. While passing the mystery section, I thought I would take a quick look and lo and behold, I found "The Hollow". This clever mysteries will never go out of style and always offer good plot, Hercule Poirot being the second best detective in the world. I am an avid Sherlock Holmes fan first. As always, a great who-done-it.

Murder is the crime here but who did it is the mystery that the eccentric and incomparable detective, Hercule Poirot, must solve. Met with a mise-en-scene murder at poolside with the victim surrounded by a gaggle of potential suspects, it seems that the brilliant Belgian slueth has an enormous enigma for his "little grey cells" to unravel. One of Christie's best and with a solution that you will kick yourself for not arriving at before the bewildered Poirot; my personal favorite of the Poirot series and I hope it will be yours too!

Lord and Lady Angkatell have invited six guest to their weekend house party.Among those guest is Poirot who is greeted by the sight of a man lying by the outdoor pool his blood slowly dripping into it.Very close to the dead man stands his wife who is also holding a gun. At first glance it looks like the women liked her husband. But if she didn't kill her husband who did?

This is an interesting mystery to me, because of some of the psychological twists and turns. What makes this book so interesting to me is I find the murder victim so very unlikable; even though, he has a couple of redeeming qualities as a doctor. The victims in "Poirot's Christmas" and "5 Little Pigs", respectively, were pretty revolting, too, but, for some reason, Dr. Christow really got under my skin. Maybe, because so many of the suspects were unpleasant, too, i.e.: Henrietta, Gerda, and Veronica. Lady A is an odd character, but, strangely enough, you feel her fey charm. Christie really creates an uncomfortable atmosphere with this book. You clearly feel the police Inspector's frustration with the Ankgatell Clan.

Agatha Christie was such a great author that can move you like no other. Considering her writing in this novel I really wanted 2 people to die, but could only have 1. If the other loathsome character (by reason of incessant talk) slipped and died from any torturous death I think I would have laughed and rejoiced with great glee. You may say that is horrible but I would say to you, "Tell it to Agatha Christie, she's the one who wrote it!!!"

This is a great Poirot mystery! I've read it several times over the years, and somehow, it never ceases to amaze me with the twists and turns of the plot, as well as the wonderful characters and the fabulous locations. It's definitely one of my favorites!

THE HOLLOW is based on Agatha Christie's mystery THE HOLLOW (Murder After Hours). It's the story of a weekend party gone terribly wrong, and what happens when people meddle. Hercule Poirot is the detective, and even he is deceived, though not for long. A great play!
