Home Is Where The Start Is (Roseland, #1) by Eric Ugland

When Ginger Mitchell finds out her mother committed suicide, she packs up her life as a Vegas “dancer” (hey, somebody’s gotta do it) and drives her cherry-red SUV straight home to Portland. Without a disapproving mom to rebel against, what was the point?
But things aren’t what they seem once Ginger gets to the City of Roses. For one, nothing about her mother’s suicide adds up, but no one else even wants to entertain the idea that it could’ve been murder. No one that is, except the ghost of Ginger’s mother, who keeps scaring the crap out of her. It’s probably just a psychotic break because of the grief, right? Sure.
In any case, it’s during one of these visits from Ghost Mom that Ginger decides to solve the murder on her own. She really only ever wanted to be a cop, so maybe she should start a private detective business and see where it takes her. And look, that hippie kid running down the street after a muscle car right now probably needs help. Another case!

First, I really liked this well written, short story. It was not overy violent, had a good flow and great characters. I almost quit reading on page one, the very first sentence contained f#@k and the first paragraph was about oral sex, in detail. The book becomes a bit tamer after this, unfortunately the language does not. There is a ghost in this book, which pops in and out and so far, has not served a purpose of any kind. There are homosexuals, drinking, getting date drugged, drugs selling drugs, prostitution and the russian mob. There is a maby murder or perhaps a suicide, this was never ckarified and one of the main character's brothers is a bully, the other seems like a pretty good guy. This is a cliff hanger. I did buy the second book in the series, all though I do not approve of the profanity and prostitution in this book, I did like the humor and the main character. I also liked the PI angle as it was not run of the mill and I like different. If the seamier side gets worse or continues, I can always stop reading and delete. As for the ghost, she can always disappear.lots of adult content. Chick lit for adults. AD

Quit reading after the first paragraph. Why anyone would want to read that filth is beyond me.

EXPLICIT LANGUAGE I put that in caps just to warn people. I usually do not have a problem with some sexual content in mysteries, but (like the other one-star reviewer stated) this was offensive and in your face from the get-go. The very first sentence is written in crude language, and another subsequent one was, as well. There was no need for it, and this author now has lost 2 readers because of it. And I am no prude. I was actually wary of this book even before I read the first page, because on the dedication page the author showed me that he has no understanding of how to use commas. Since I didn't read long enough to see if this mistake was repeated throughout the book, all I can say is I hope not. But I'll never know, because I am not going to read it. I do not recommend this book, for language and a disrespectful way of writing (men, please do not write as a female lead in a story unless you can actually think/write like a woman). I am deleting it off my Nook.

Definitely an adult title, but if you enjoy the genre you'll enjoy this book very much.

Ok, I opened this book and deleted it upon reading the first sentence. I was looking for a mystery book, not trash. One star because I can't rate any lower.

Adult read. Great short story. Hoping the rest of the books are longer. I really was getting into this story line when it ended.
