The Columbia River label is dedicated to reissuing old-time country music and does a lot of cowboy compilations. They are always exactly what they say they are, never claiming to be definitive best-ofs or retrospectives and are attractively priced. That said, this set of cowboy tunes has some fine moments, including Eddie Dean's "Sleepy Time in Caroline," Jimmie Davis' "Prairie of Love," and "Pony Express" by Stuart Hamblen. One of the more curious inclusions is "Honky Tonk Chinese Dime" by Al Dexter. For the collector, there is nothing here that's new or obscure; for the casual listener, these mid-line tunes are performed well and will make a curious and perhaps very engaging listening experience.
