Home Sweet Sonoma

Home Sweet Sonoma

by Georgia James, Deborah Parrish

Superstitious, type-A executive, Kitty Taylor, is about to celebrate the greatest achievement of her career with her brilliant lover-lawyer, Nick Dylan, at her side. But when bad news hits the office, Nick races to New York to salvage the deal of a lifetime, forcing their personal lives to take a back seat, yet again.

With life in limbo, an omen compels Kitty to follow a chain of events, luring her to the wine country to celebrate her mother's 70th birthday. But as she steps foot in the door, she witnesses an event which proves that magic doesn't really exist after all.

Stuck in a crumbling old church that her mother calls home, Kitty is faced with a vineyard bursting with ripe fruit, and must learn to nurture her feminine side, one grape at a time. Luckily, her mother's rock-solid handyman, Daine Shepherd, lives on the property, and is just the one to help her do it. As Kitty resists, he gently persists, and their attraction grows by the day. She is not only forced to reconsider her relationship with Nick, but her urban lifestyle with all its fringe benefits. Dwelling in the luscious slow-moving wine country, she finds herself looking in all kinds of surprising places for the love she didn't even realize she needed.

This wine country romance goes best with a glass of Chardonnay, so kick back, relax, and follow Kitty on a soulful journey where she learns to trust her instincts and discover what she most wants out of life.

About the Author

Deborah began writing romance novels on her mother's old green Smith Corona typewriter at the age of 11. Her heart's calling was put on hold to raise her daughter, who's become a successful business woman in her own right. After three decades of masquerading as a financial executive, Deborah's lifelong dream was reawakened and realized with her first published novel, Home Sweet Sonoma. With her musician husband at her side, she lives in coastal West Marin surrounded by nature's bounty. When she's not busy dreaming up a steamy love story, she's capturing joy-filled moments through her lens as a lifestyle photographer.

Georgia is a hopeless romantic and wine country enthusiast. Once a senior executive in the entertainment industry, she turned to writing and has never looked back. She splits her time between Sonoma, California, and Chicago, Illinois. James holds a BA in Spanish literature. Home Sweet Sonoma is her first novel.

Deborah and Georgia had a blast writing this story, convinced they couldn't have done it without each other's encouragement. Having been friends for 20 years, their passion for good love stories finally showed up on the page. Home Sweet Sonoma is really about their shared love affair with romance and the little things in life that truly matter, like small towns, wine and song, pies (lots of pie), sunsets, walks in the park, kissing and of course, the behind-the-curtain passion that is the juice of life.

This book is unique in that it was written by two authors who share a voice so well I read the whole thing through and felt like it came from one person. I’m not big on romance stories, only reading a small amount compared to everything else I enjoy, but this story was written well and didn’t feel too over the top like we tend to see in the genre. It’s a great blend of excitement and character building (and it is incredibly easy to get lost in these characters). I typically complain about too much dialogue, but it really drives this story and makes it feel realistic. It made the read fast, and I found that these characters felt like people I knew in real life. Kitty is one of the most relatable characters I’ve read of in a long time. She’s hyper-focused on everything and everyone else so much that she kind of swims in uncertainty when it comes to her personal/romantic relationships. This is a great start to the series! If you’re a fan of romance, I encourage you to read this book.

Home Sweet Sonoma is a relevant, character-driven story. Georgia James and Deborah Parrish make their characters come to life as relatable people with rich descriptions of their setting, everyday life, and thoughts and emotions. They very quickly seem like real people. For me, that was the highlight of the book, not the actual plot of the book, though you can’t have one without the other, of course. Still, the dialog between characters and the inner thought processes are what really move the story along, and it all seems very natural. It’s also easy to read. The story flows well and though there isn’t much “action,” it never feels stagnant. I also enjoy reading women authors writing women characters. It gives us guys an insight into another type of thinking and feeling.

What an impressive story! I had a great time reading this book, I love romance novels, and especially funny ones. Kitty was definitely my favorite character, she had way too much going on with those men in her life! I also love her go getter personality, she is determined to make it and won’t let anything get in her way. However, I could not stand Nick, he seemed like he was more into himself than he was into Kitty. I was like, can’t you see that this man is not feeling you?! I can’t stand it when high powered women settle! Anyway, this was a great read, highly recommended!

Very enjoyable, sweet read. Also about family and what happens when their gone. I love how Kitty is such a strong woman except when it comes to her boyfriend Nick, ugh!!! But fate has a way of making things right!!! Love that this story is based in the Bay Area where I'm from, and beautiful Sonoma, which if you've never visited, you need to. A wonderful contemporary romance!!

What a fabulous romantic story! Home Sweet Sonoma was a great read! I enjoyed getting lost in Sonoma country! I was enthralled by the book and was excited to see what was waiting for me with the main characters in the beginning with Nick and Kitty. As the story played out a new character appears in Kitty's life Daine, and he isn't going to make things easy for her.The story keeps your attention and makes you look forward to what is going to happen next. For me this book had mystery, surprises galore, and room to grow in both the story and characters. I am looking forward to the next book of this series.

A cute fun read, slowing down rethinking life and enjoying what life brings you. The plot is good with lots of details given pulling you in. I enjoyed watching Kitty work through her issues in this love triangle, the humor was good even laughed and chuckled a time or two. The twists and turns are cut and fun, a very entertaining read that kept my attention. The characters are likable, the story is believable and realistic. I liked how strong and sure Kitty is over everything but her love life. She must take a closer look before finding what she really wants. I think in some ways we can all relate to her I know there was a time when I had to rethink a relationship and pick between two. I decided neither would do and moved on. Very enjoyable story with great points of view, wish there were some more scenes with some characters. I think a lot of thought went into write things giving you a story that touches your heart.
