This mystery is a play, with a twist, on home invasions. Jeff is an average married man with a young son and daughter, who is awakened one night when he and his wife hear a noise downstairs. He takes his gun down to investigate and ends up killing two intruders. Rather than solving their problem, this starts a chain of events that will terrify him and his family. Hawley bases his story on the truth that "maybe the intruders broke into the wrong house. Happens all the time." What Hawley does with this fact is what raises this above the typical home invasion story that fills our news today. There is a certain sympathy for both homeowner and invader that makes the read more involved and twisted. The twist is a possibility that I question, but it definitely could happen. Interesting read!

A family that went thru hell and then some with a few folks who went to his home and shot it up. This books was smooth reading and this is a story that can actually happen. But as the story winds down, it became less of a story to me., somehow the story was hard to believe.

Great book! I received the book from the author for an honest review. This is my second book from the author Samuel Hawley, and each time I enjoyed his books. Homeowner with a gun is different from Elephant Farstream. But, just as with that book he captivated me with the plot and I struggled to put the book down. I love his writing style. It is easy to read, fast paced that keeps you interest to the very end. The flow of the story is always good, you know where you are and can follow along without any problems; just enjoying the story as it develops. And you can connect with each character: sympathized or get angry with them, it all depends on your point of view. Homeowner with a gun has a nice build up, with enough twists and mystery to keep you guessing. Even the end left you with a bit of wonder as if the author deliberately wanted you to think and consider the outcome. I liked the outcome. I think both characters received what they deserved. The story was well planned and suspenseful: with gang members busy doubting each other, trying to be better than the next guy. Some of these characters were a real treat. :) We learn more about I-Man, his life in prison and the hardships that left its mark on him. When he received some interesting news inside his life changed, one night during his own stupidity he spoke to the wrong person. This is where the story begins. When he tries to make it right, the Shaw family was drawn into it; very innocently. Jeff Shaw was a man with a mission: To protect his house and family at all cost. When he realized that the police will not do much to protect him he took measures in his own hand. Especially when his children's lives were at stake. Systematically he searched the area for the culprits and at the end I thought he was in way to deep. He had so much power actually, I don't think he realized that at times but yet during all the experiences he had he kept focused on the one thing: to flush out the thugs and get behind the reason, why they targeted his house. The book was written from Both I-Man and Jeff's point of view. It gave you a better understanding of the secrets they kept and the choices they made. At the end it was a wonderful book and I can recommend it with the greatest pleasure. Thanks for the opportunity.

This is a story that could have been ripped right out of today’s headlines.  It was terrifying.  I could feel the fear of the homeowners knowing someone was in their house.  I can only imagine how  Jeff and his wife felt during the drive by shooting.  First is the fear and then the sheer panic when your find your daughter has been shot.  I felt so sorry for their son who witnessed it all.  I have heard stories like this from students who live in violent neighborhoods.  It reminded me of a poem a student wrote about himself. It was an “I am, I was, I will be” poem.  He feared he would be killed in a drive-by shooting and by the end of the poem he imagined himself headed to heaven because he would be dead.  I wondered if those in the gang felt so helpless at some point in their lives. I was grateful we got to see the thinking behind both sides, Jeff’s side and the gang’s side.  I sat on the edge of my seat in fear for Jeff and wondering if and when things were going to end.  This was  the first  book I had read by this author and I would definitely read more.  This is a face paced book and one I recommend. I received a copy to help facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

What a well written & insightfully captivating novel.  This is a very deep story that is about so much more than simply the suspense that Hawley provides.  He takes off with a fast pace and maintains it throughout the novel.  Hawley’s plot twists kept me on my toes while the story kept moving forward.  His visual descriptions kept everything in focus and lent credence to the plot line.   Hawley’s characters are intricately developed and easy to relate to.  He ensures that he presents both sides of the story while remaining deeply in the storyline.  Characters on both sides of the story are equally well developed.  Hawley allows us to know their rationales, letting us get to know everyone in a well rounded manner. This explicitly believable story left me on the edge of my seat and gasping in turn.  It’s definitely well worth picking up. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Homeowner With A Gun by Samuel Hawley is an interesting book about an average, normal young family whose lives are turned upside down by a home invasion in the middle of the night. The father shoots and kills the suspects and everything goes downhill from there. While most of the story is about Jeff (the father) who makes some really dumb decisions it is also about I-Man who is a member of the gang that the 2 suspects belonged to and is also the reason they broke into the house. A good story relevant to a lot of what is heard on the news today.

Jeff and Allie worked hard to take care of their kids, own a home, pay the bills, and live a normal family life. One night, as they lay sleeping, they awoke to sounds of an intruder in their home. Jeff told Allie to call 911, pulled his gun out of the closet, loaded it, and checked on the kids. Then he quietly descended the steps toward the soft noises downstairs. Jeff was scared, but knew he had to protect his family. Then he saw them. There were two and from that point on, it all happened so quickly. He started shooting and thought he'd hit them both. Little did he know how completely his life was about to change… Whoa! I was blindsided with the depth and detail of this book and I thoroughly loved it on all counts! There were many times I was entirely thrown with the way the story evolved, not expecting the twists and turns it took. I was quite impressed with Mr. Hawley's masterful storytelling and was spellbound from start to finish. Jeff's ultimate "revenge" was well played out and it made me love the story that much more! I was surprised with the ending but thought it quite clever! I've already started talking about Homeowner With a Gun and I plan to keep on doling out my recommendations to anyone I come in contact with. I loved it! 5 Stars!

This was a story that really hits home for readers right now. There have been several stories in the news that make you stop and wonder "what would I do?". What would you do to protect your family? The main character, the homeowner, Jeff wakes up to find 2 people in his house in the middle of the night. What would you do? He winds up shooting and killing the intruders. What happens after is a lot of heartache for his family. The gang family of the intruders wants retribution, and there is the question of why they went after Jeff's house in the first place. There are many twists and turns in this tale and it moves at a very fast pace and keeps you on the edge of your seat beginning to end. This is a very good "ripped from the headlines" story and I highly recommend this book!
