First-person account of (fictitious) Homer Bolton, who grew up on a farm in Texas in the mid-1800s, then of his adventures and mis-adventures in various parts of the west and south.

This was a fun short story to read. Not complicated and not too many characters but it was interesting following Homer Bolton from cattle-hand to deputy sheriff to finally the Sheriff of Duncan Flats.

This is a very good read, mindful of "Gunsmoke" or "Little House on the Prairie". Can be read in a short period of time

The book was short and to the point, which helps the reader put his thoughts into the story and the past and what life may have been like. I know that what I will say at this point might be petty, but the proof readers and spell checkers failed to make corrections as needed for sentence structure

The storyline is great but the author messes up a few details. First Wyoming wasnt even a territory until 1868. Next he makes it sound like Wyoming is closer to Canada than it is. Wyoming doesnt touch the canadian border at all. You have to go through montana to get there, even in those times. Other than that it was a good book.

Very good story. I made sure I read every word of it. I wished it was a bit longer however. Why did the retired sherriffs ink well have to dry up so quickly. I'm sure he had plenty more fascinating stories to tell, and we never got a clear understanding of why he retired or why he moved to Canada afterwords. I wonder if there is a sequel.
