Overview

Journey back to Neverland, NC with NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author Gina L. Maxwell as she turns your favorite villain into the hero you never knew you needed.

THEY CALL ME HOOK

I'm Captain of the Pirates; a villain by design and a loner by nature.

I don't need anyone. More than that, I don't want anyone. Especially Officer John Darling who insists on seeing the good in everything, including me. If there was ever any good inside of me, it was snuffed out long ago.

I've avoided him for years, but now I need his help to save my brother's life and take down Fred Croc, the monster from my childhood and my current employer.

Now Darling is undercover in my crew, living in my loft and forever working out shirtless. Taking Croc's operation down from the inside is dangerous as hell, but Darling's probing gaze and the natural way he defers to my dominant side might just be the end of me.

But I've lived in the dark for too long, and no amount of light can save me. Not even one as bright as Johnathan Darling.

HE CALLS ME DARLING

I'm a Task Force Officer with the FBI; a protector of the innocent and a man in love with a villain.

Before I was even old enough to understand it, I had a crush on the broody teen called Captain Hook, following him around like a puppy and hoping he'd show me the slightest bit of attention.

He never did, though, not for years. Not until I became his only viable option for getting his crew member back and throwing Croc behind bars. Now he can't ignore me, and he can't hide the desire burning in his eyes when I sink to my knees, eager to serve my Captain however he needs.

But secrets are hard to keep in close quarters, and when I discover the darkness lurking in his past, eradicating the evil in Neverland is no longer my only mission. Come hell or high water, I'll make Hook see that he's never been the villain of this story...he's the hero.

About the Author

Gina L. Maxwell is a full-time writer, wife, and mother living in the upper Midwest, despite her scathing hatred of snow and cold weather. An avid romance novel addict, she began writing as an alternate way of enjoying the romance stories she loves to read. Her debut novel, Seducing Cinderella, hit both the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists in less than four weeks, and she’s been living her newfound dream ever since.

When she’s not reading or writing steamy romance novels, she spends her time losing at games to her high school sweetheart, hanging out with her adult teenagers as they learn to fly, and moving to someplace warm once they do.

Wow! I cannot begin to explain how good this book was. This story is filled with such emotions, good and bad and it will take you on a journey that you never even knew that you needed to go on. To say James "Captain" Hook had a rough childhood is an understatement. He went through things that no child should ever have to face. Because of his past, Hook believes he needs to live his life alone and in the darkness. When Fred Croc gets Hook's brother, Starkey thrown into jail, Hook realizes that the only way to get his brother out and bring Croc down is to work with the FBI Task Force Officer, Johnathan Darling....yes the same John that he met when he was younger; that he is now attracted to; but could never have. When John ends up moving into Hook's loft for his undercover role things start heating up between John and Hook. Where Hook is all dark, John is all light! They compliment each other well. John knew he was always drawn to Hook when they were younger but now he understands where that attraction comes from and he is determined to make Hook his. Of course Hook fights John every step of the way but eventually they both give in to their feelings. Just when it looks like the FBI is finally going to bring Croc down and get Starkey released, Hook's world comes crashing down all around him. It will take a small miracle for Hook to find his happy ending and John is going to do everything in his power to see that he gets it. I just adored these two. Hook is such a broken soul. He really needed someone like John who can bring such light into his world over and over again so that he really can start to heal. I also just adored John. Everyone needs someone like that in their corner. He is so good and so determined to give Hook the world he deserves and it was fun watching him do it. Overall this was a fantastic addition to this series and I can't wait for the next book!

I love fairytale retellings and have been looking very forward to Hook's release. It was a very emotional story but you could tell that Gina took great care in getting Hook's story absolutely right. I was so emotionally invested in John, Hook, Starkey and the others, I woke up in the middle of the night last night to finish it. It was worth it and worth the wait.

Trigger Warning: Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Murder, Abuse, Angst, Drug Use As many of you know, I've been waiting anxiously for Hook to come out! I was one of the lucky bloggers that Gina gave a copy to in exchange for an honest review. I read Pan earlier this year and fell completely head over heels for Gina's writing, and I've been shoving Pan down everyone's throats because it is that amazing! Now, full disclosure, I have only read one other M/M romance, so I wasn't sure what to expect. All I knew was that I couldn't wait to fly into Neverland again. I built Hook up in my head so much that at times I was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype. Luckily, Hook was everything I wanted and more. This book follows Hook & John's story. The chemistry between them was out of this world. It was fun to see the anger, the angst, and the fire between the two of them. The characters as always were well written and thoroughly entertaining. I laughed, I cried, and I had to put my book down a few times, so I didn't throw my kindle. The plotline was one of the shining stars of this book. It was action-packed, intense, and extremely engaging. I never wanted to put the book down, yet I enjoyed it so much I never wanted it to end. I loved the undercover aspect of the book, and it makes me want to reread some of my favorite romantic suspense. I was always on the edge of my seat and couldn't wait to see how everything unfolded. All in all, I LOVED this book. It lived up to the hype that I had in my head, and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series when it comes out. If you enjoy angst-filled bad boys with a heart of gold, this is the book for you. Gina truly knows how to write angst in a way that everyone can enjoy.

There is a time when a story from your childhood is brought to life, movie or book and it doesn't do it justice. Well, let me tell you this is not that time. Author Gina L. Maxwell has brought Captain James Hook to life and made me fall head over heels in love with him. This story is filled with pain, heartbreak, some abuse, lust, family, and love to weather it all. Hook and John are total opposites, one is a villain and the other is part of the FBI task force to take down drug dealers in the area. I finished this story late last night, went to sleep but woke up sometime during the night thinking about my review and what I would say. I had some great words but now I can't remember most of them. So I will say to read this one along with Pan, book 1, if you loved the story Peter Pan as a child, then you will love this series even more.

4.5 Stars Once again this author creates another amazing fairy tale re-telling that was packed full of so many emotions! Hook and John came together to be this amazing couple that were absolutely perfect for each other. It was a little bit of an opposites attract story. Hook as the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and John as the good boy who steals the bad boys heart.  I really enjoyed the story the Gina Maxwell created! It was sweet, steamy, and a little dark and gritty. I thought the story was really well written with good flow. I was entertained from beginning to end. I am looking forward to what else this author writes!
