Overview

Hook's Little Mermaid by Suzanna Lynn

Captain James Hook was once a good man trying to make a somewhat honest living. He is a pirate, after all. However, after getting word that a boy named Peter Pan played a part in the death of a dear loved one, Hook makes it his sole purpose to hunt down and destroy the fiend.

On his journey for vengeance, the captain encounters many new comrades, including a young girl named Red and a fairy called Tinker Bell, and both push him to reconsider his desire for justice.

The accidental rescue of a mermaid leads him on a whirlwind adventure in Neverland. The journey is not a simple one, considering Pan, the Lost Boys, mermaids, and magic all come into play. After several misadventures, Hook must choose between the possibility of a new life with love and his much-desired retaliation against Pan.

Once everything is said and done, will the captain be able to overcome his need for revenge? Will he let compassion steer him toward love? Or will Captain Hook live up to his villainous reputation?

About the Author

Author Suzanna Lynn is a full-time mom of three beautiful, energetic children and spends her days with them and her husband in a small town nestled in the deep rolling hills of Missouri.

Growing up in the Ozarks, as a child Suzanna spent her days wandering the fields and woods surrounding her home. While most children avoided the dark corners of the woods, she sought it out, imagining them to be filled with fairies, dragons and all number of creatures.

Having not lost her childhood imagination, Suzanna has written numerous poems, songs and short stories that won various awards in high school and college.

However, in 2014 she decided to stop wishing she could publish a book and made the dream a reality when she released The Bed Wife.

That first novella gave birth to two more books, completing the series, and stirred the embers of a new five-book series called The Untold Stories, which is currently in the works.

When she's not busy writing or spending time with her family, Suzanna loves to draw and paint, as well as scrapbook. She also has been known to volunteer with her children's school, the local Ladies Auxiliary veterans group and even the local zoo!

Reviewed by Liz Konkel for Readers' Favorite Hook’s Little Mermaid by Suzanna Lynn is a fun take on the classic story of Peter Pan. Everyone knows the story of Captain Hook and Peter Pan. Lynn spins the tale of Jameson Shaw as he searches for the boy Peter Pan who’s responsible for the death of his son. Jameson Shaw goes up against several obstacles as he makes his way to Neverland, including kidnapping and making a deal with a fairy, meeting Red Riding Hood, and fighting off a Kraken. With the aid of a fairy, it seems that his revenge against Pan will become a reality. His journey encounters several surprise turns when he meets the mermaids of Neverland and learns the truth of his son’s death. As a fan of Peter Pan and J.M. Barrie, I love finding different ways of adapting the story into something new. I love Hook’s Little Mermaid! It’s perfect for any lover of fairytales. Suzanna Lynn takes threads of what we know of the tale and flips it all into a new direction. Picking up the traces of other fairytales is a fun treat for those who adore the classic tales. Knowing that Red’s story is the center of book two makes me wonder what other stories will be explored. The red cloak was a quick giveaway to Red Riding Hood. A glass coffin reminds Hook of a realm called Fairest which has a wicked witch that cursed a girl to sleep. A mermaid has legs when she comes ashore. Lynn has created a rich world full of potential and twists. Hook is fun, a fairytale for a new generation and a delightful take on old classics.

This is a fun fairy tale adventure appropriate for all ages! The author skillfully weaves together familiar fairy tale characters and recognizable worlds with a unique new twist and offers interesting and sometimes painful origin stories. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I connected to the characters easily and the beautiful details and unmatched imagery fully immersed me within their world. I felt like I was watching it as a movie play out in my head while reading and could easily envision the characters too (think Hook from Once Upon A Time). The author does a good job balancing the introduction of characters and back story with action and progressing the story making this a quick and satisfying read. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves Disney classics, fairy tale reinterpretations, or Once Upon A Time and can't wait for the next book to be released.

The perfect read for fans of fractured fairy tales, Peter Pan, Once Upon A Time, Disney cartoons, Roman myths, and just those who enjoy a new spin on an old tale. If I'm being completely honest, the cover caught my eye and made me want to read this book without even reading the blurb. It's gorgeous in the hues of blue with splashes of complimenting orange. Add in a dashing pirate and a mermaid and it brings up thoughts of childhood adventure stories. While judging a book by its cover can go terribly wrong it certainly didn't in the case of Hook's Little Mermaid. With twists and turns, swashbuckling action and tender moments alike Ms Lynn keeps her readers turning pages with the speed of a hurricane gale. I eagerly await the next installment of James' story and can't wait to learn more about his mate Rosalee in Red's tale as soon as it releases.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a new spin on Captain Hook and I was hooked from the start. It starts off with a bang and keeps you flipping the pages, it starts at seeing the captain doing his thing and in search for something, it keeps getting better from there I love the title and can't wait to see what this author has in store for us!

Nice book by Ms. Suzanna. (For me) Not as captivating as The Bed Wife Chronicles but still a good read and has it's own character and angst. Hook's Little Mermaid is about Hook's, of course, adventure with his crew and of course a mermaid. Anyway, he won't be known without Peter...his nemesis.. With Peter's part of the death of someone he holds dearly, Hook is determined to destroy Peter. As the story goes, he will meet a mermaid accidentally (accidental rescue), and form there more interesting things will happen to him and also all the characters in the book. Ms. Suzanna did an amazing job for making this book full of surprises and intriguing! I can't wait for Hook's next adventure!

4.5 stars. This was a fun retelling with a nice spin. I look forward to the rest of the series! Captain Jameson Shaw, or Captain Hook as we know him, is on a mission to find Peter Pan, who he blames for the death of his son. I don't want to go into much more detail and spoil the story, but along the way he meets a fairy, some mermaids/mermen, and Peter Pan himself. Some of these characters can't be trusted, of course. He faces several dangers along the way: kraken infested waters, the merfolk who are known to rip men apart and sink boats, and a visit to Crocodile Beach. There's also another less prominent storyline threaded through that will work as a segue into another fairy tale retelling. Excited for the next book!

I enjoyed Hooks Little Mermaid despite the fact, Peter Pan is my least favorite fairytale! I really liked the spin Suzanna Lynn created, keeping true to the age old story while putting her own imagination in the world of Neverland! The writing was good giving me a good pirate feel to the first person narrative. (I was totally picturing the guy who played captain hook in Once Upon a Time and Mr.Smee as Mr. Gibbs from pirates!!) I was only irked by tinkerbell as her name stayed true to the original fairy but her clothes were different. I couldn't believe the ending though, I was certainly sitting on the edge of seat gasping at all the information thrown at me! talk about a kind blown moment! Hooks Little Mermaid was a great light read especially if you are into current contemporary fairytales!
