Gr 2-4-These brief books give bare-bones accounts of their respective tribes. Both have the same general divisions. "First Look" includes a map of each tribe's ancient and present territory and a few other basic facts. "History" outlines the people's struggles against encroaching Europeans. "Daily Life" and "Customs" deal with ancient and modern traditions and culture. Interesting color photos appear throughout. Unfortunately, the layout is cluttered, with maps, fact boxes, and illustrations often overlapping the background border. Both titles have the same collage of images on the cover. The glossaries and indexes are ridiculously brief and the sources in the list for further information are not very current. Two of the four Web sites listed in Ute are no longer active. Despite these minor shortcomings, the books are serviceable resources for young report writers.-Donna Cardon, Provo City Library, UT Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
