Horrid by L.C. Ireland is the first book in her new series, Seven Sisters of Silverleaf, and it was a very unique ride through this book. Following the fairytale like existence of Delta Delaroe and her 6 sisters, they have a very idyllic existence until they are cursed by a woman known to everyone in their village as the Horrid Witch. This curse states that one girl will diappear each night until the thing stolen from her is returned. When it becomes apparent that the witch's curse is indeed real, Delta is willing to sell her soul to save herself and the rest of her sisters to the witch. But the price is high, and Delta will have to be stronger than ever to be able to complete the task in the time the witch gives her. Is Delta willing to risk everything for the sake of her sisters, or with the task from the witch be too much when she realizes just who it is that the witch wants in exchange? Ireland is a new to me author, and her foray into the young adult fantasy genre was very well executed. The story had enough depth, the characters were very well written and the storyline stayed in line throughout the entire story. I was able to guess at the ending about half of the way through, but I still really enjoyed this read. Getting out of my wheelhouse of stories, has really opened by reading list to other authors that I would have normally missed out on. I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for something a little left of center, but will leave you feeling really great with the ending.
