Overview

In Horses, Seymour Simon introduces elementary-school readers to horses through engaging descriptions and stunning full-color photographs. He teaches readers all about horses through pictures, diagrams, and maps. This book includes a glossary and index.

What animal can . . .

  • run so fast, its feet don't always touch the ground,
  • weigh more than 2,000 pounds,
  • sense people's emotions by their smell,
  • . . . and wear shoes?
  • Why, a horse, of course!

Horses are some of the most fascinating—and important—creatures on Earth. In fact, our world would not be the way it is today if not for horses. Horses have carried medieval knights into battle, transported settlers to the American West, and hauled fire engines and buses. They even turned the wheels that provided power for factories! But one of their greatest, most enduring gifts to us is companionship and trust.

I purchased this ebook to read with my daughter. While the content is good, the formatting of the ebook is not. The publisher took the cheap way out. The ebook is formatted as if the pages of the book were just scanned and saved as an ebook. So, the text and images are on one page. The text is small and so are the images. You can't adjust either. I learned a lesson about cheap children's ebooks from this purchase and will be more careful next time.

Everything you need to know about horses is in this book. The breeds, history, and life of horses are discussed in clear details. I would recommend this book to a student if they were doing a project or power point presentation on horses. The photography of the different types of horses are just breathtaking. I loved reading this book, since they are my favorite animals.

This book is full of information about horses. It tells the history of horses and what they were/are used for. It talks about the different breeds of horses and and the many types of horses.I liked this book because it is full of information. I learned a lot from this book! I also really enjoyed the pictures because they were real pictures and not drawings. For extension, students can research the different types of horses there are and make a collage of the different types using pictures they find.
