Hot Chrome, Smooth Leather, and a Red Bandanna is a "poetry-novel" by Steven M. Silver. It follows its main characters through America in the early '90's and centers on a man trying to make sense of love, hate, revenge, violence, forgiveness, and understanding, all propelled by a journey astride a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Along the way, he encounters a highway patrol trooper, a crow, a groundhog that sings its death song, drug dealers, hackers, librarian, a book store clerk, the Navajo Nation, old ghosts, a future (possibly) doctor, an actual doctor, and a singer-songwriter following the mother road, among many others. Hot Chrome takes the reader on a journey where the subject varies between the nature of America and the genetics of baseball to an examination of what motorcycle God might ride.
