This was my first Lynn Raye Harris story and I didn't know what to expect since she is a new-to-me author. But, the book cover lured me in along with the blurb on Netgalley and I said, "To hell with it. I'm requesting this novella even though I have a million books on my TBR pile." Georgie has been in love with her older brother's best friend, Sam McKnight ever since she was a little girl. Georgie comes from money and Sam doesn't. He's the poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks with messed up parents. He knows that he's not good enough for Georgie and has kept his distance for years and now he's working for HOT. When Georgie's safety is threatened, Sam makes it his mission to protect her even if it means spending a few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland's Eastern Shore with her. Days being cooped up together breaks down Sam's resistance and he eventually gives in to the ever tempting Georgie. I actually found myself liking Georgie. I liked that she cursed like a sailor and wasn't Miss Prim and Proper. I also liked that she went after what she wanted and didn't back down despite Sam's brush offs. So, that brings me to Sam. I got annoyed with him when he kept playing hot and cold with Georgie throughout the story. I wanted to yell at him to make up his damn mind about his feelings for Georgie. While I did enjoy this story for the most part, I found it to be quite bland. That's the only way I could describe it. However, Hot Mess was not bad. From the book summary I just had this preconceived idea that Hot Mess was going to have some danger, action, suspense and a little bit of drama thrown in. When none of these happened I was left disappointed when the last page was turned. I thought that the conflict was resolved too easily and quickly. I felt that there should have been more to it. The story was building up at a good pace, but the ending was anticlimactic. I was expecting more, but got nothing as a result. Therefore, I'll have to say that was what I was most disappointed with. While I didn't love this story, The Hostile Operations Team series sounds like a promising series so I'll keep my eyes out for it. *Received an ARC via Netgalley for an honest review.

I very seldom like the females in this genre but Georgie is great. She's brave and doesn't hold back and she doesnt make stupid choices that cause her to need to be saved! (Evie really bugged me that way)

' I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review ' Georgeanne I a teacher for the Military and she is worried about Jake. A student who has missed some classes. When an old friend of her brothers comes to visit she is shocked. She has been in love with Sam forever. He is a Ranger or so she thinks. He of course can't tell her that he is a member of HOT. So out of curiosity she asks him if he can find out what happened to Jake. Sam has wanted Georgeanne forever but he feels he is not good enough for her and feels that her family won't either. When checking on a student for her he finds some not so good information that puts her in danger. Things heat up when they have to go in hiding to keep her safe. What will happen when all is said and done? Will Sam stay or go? This is such a great series with some Hot Alpha men. It is a shorter story but Awesome! I like that Sam and Georgeanne are both insecure about some things. Sam is definitely cocky, that's for sure. What Alpha Male isn't. Georgeanne definitely has her work cut out for her in this book convincing Sam that he is good enough for her. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I definitely recommend reading. ' Read and Reviewed by LSK Sweetheart Reviews '

This is the first book I've read in this series.  Believe me, I am going to purchase Hot Pursuit as soon as I finish here.  Excellent story.  I was sucked in from the get-go.  When I read novellas, sometimes I feel short-changed.....not in this case.  Can someone please tell me where I can get my very own Sam??

A Hot Mess by Lynn Raye Harris was a short, hot read. Georgie has loved Sam since she was a teenager, but he pushed her away because he felt he wasn't good enough for her. Six years later he is back in her life and the attraction is still simmering. I loved reading about Georgie and Sam. This latest installment of Lynn's HOT series is not one to miss as you watch Sam struggle with discovering whether or not he can risk it all to be with Georgie or if he will let the feelings of not being good enough ruin what they have.

In Hot Mess by Lynn Raye Harris Georgie is no longer the teenager who threw herself at Sam. She is now an English professor working for the military, she's been married and divorced, and lives far enough away from her family so that they can't interfere with her life on a daily basis. Sam has been Georgie's brother's best friend forever. He knew Georgie had a crush on him when she was younger, something that no matter what he felt he wasn't going to act on since she was his best friend's little sister. Sam knew the thing for him would be to move away and join the military - that was his way to get where he wanted to be in life. He couldn't just take what Georgie was offering then leave, so although things got hot and heavy for one night when she was 18, he put a stop to it before it went too far. Now he and Georgie have not seen each other in years.  In present time, Sam is back in the States, now part of a very elite military group (HOT). When Georgie's brother asks him to check in on her, Sam's timing is impecable. Georgie is worried about one of her missing adult students, she's been pushed in front of a train, and her house has been broken into. Sam has the connections to help her, but before they know it, all of the events are tied to the missing student, Georgie is in danger, and Sam's team is now involved in the case. If anyone can keep Georgie safe it is Sam and his team... When Sam whisks Georgie away to a secure location, Georgie is determined to use the opportunity to not just stay safe, but to convince Sam she is much more than her brother's sister! As Sam works to keep Georgie safe, he can also no longer deny the chemistry between them. But is it a lasting chemistry? Can Sam let go of his past enough to accept that he might be just what Georgie wants? That she is willing to give things with them a try if only he will? I loved Hot Mess! Both Georgie and Sam have matured a lot since they last saw each other. They are both strong people. I love that as independent as Georgie is, she knows when things have gone too far and she knows when to ask for help...and then she listens! Sam has always felt that he couldn't touch his best friend's sister, but he's also always felt that he's not good enough for Georgie. Georgie sets out to make him see the error in his ways, and things really start to steam up between them! It makes a huge difference in Hot Mess that Sam and Georgie already know each other, even if it has been years since they've seen each other. I think that eliminates the need for a big build up of the relationship. Really, they were part way there already!  Hot Mess by Lynn Raye Harris is the perfect length for Georgie and Sam's story! Hot Mess flowed smoothly, kept me captivated, and very interested to see how things would turn out! I loved that Lynn took us right into Sam and Georgie's story, everything was so direct, and it was not some long, drawn out book based on a few days in the lifes of the characters. Lynn does a great job of taking us through a reunion, suspense, hot romance and then takes us to where I was very happy with the conclusion and the way it was done in Hot Mess. I'd highly recommend Hot Mess to any romance reader looking for a fast paced romantic suspense that will pull you in quickly and keep you there! Although it is a novella and book 1.5 of Lynn's Hostile Operations Team series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone. (Although I also highly recommend the first book in this series Hot Pursuit)

This would have been a five....but I just don't like the bad language. I think all you Authors should keep your books clean. I am sure young girls read some of these books. So please stop the F- word and GD.
