Hothouse Flower (Addicted: Calloway Sisters Series #2) by Krista Ritchie, Becca Ritchie

Ryke Meadows, meet Daisy Calloway ... she's all grown up.

Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he's hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality-he redefines the term likable asshole. But he's not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.

And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris-a girl that he has never been allowed to have.

Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her newfound independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.

As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there's deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. He must keep up with Daisy, and if he lets her go, her favorite motto-"live as if you'll die today"-may just come true.

Recommended. Slow to start, long prologue. I was worry this was going to be all about the protaganist whining about his childhood but thank goodness in chapter three the story began to pick up. Loved Ryke! Good love story, crazy families, interesting sex scenes, and a sweet HEA ending. I enjoyed coming home to read this after work (a healthy 430 pgs.) Good writing, the plots a little transparent though. I recommend reading KISS THE SKY also by these authors. S.A.K.

I want to hug Daisy. She is the people pleaser in the Calloway family and is afraid of hurting anyone's feelings. I have a feeling a lot of that is from what she observed as the youngest daughter growing up. She truly never wants to disappoint her mother yet, she's not happy as much as she has a smile that lights up a room. Ryke is hard to figure out but as you peel back the layers you find one of the most loyal people you could encounter. He loves fiercely and will do anything to protect the ones he loves. Daisy has always had a crush on Ryke but the 6 year age difference keeps them in the friend zone. Ryke is truly blown away by Daisy's light. Can these 2 find a way to be together? Will their families and friends accept a relationship? I love how we get to experience Daisy and Ryke's journey while also spending time with Lily, Lo, Rose and Connor and how they impact Daisy and Ryke's story along with moving their individual stories forward. What an amazing series. I love this group of family and friends. No matter what type of challenge is placed in front of them you get a real and honest look at how they cope with it, no sugar coating, just raw and honest reactions. Krista and Becca Ritchie continually surprise me with each new addition to this series.

I don’t think I’m going to make this overly long and drawn out. If you’ve been following the Addicted series ( not sure why if you haven’t) than you know that anything involving Ryke and Daisy is going to be F*UCKING AWESOME. Enough said. The Ritchie sisters f*cking rock when it comes to creating awkward people in awkward situations. I love it that every member of this Calloway clan (pls note I include the men into the same clan) are flawed and human. If I knew people like this in real life that would be f*cking mindblowing. So finally Daisy is of age not that Ryke has been waiting for that exact moment. Its been obvious that these two had a special connection that was able to go beyond age, the entire thing felt natural. Ryke being the person he is tried to keep what he felt for her buried so that he could keep his brother in his life. (He’s so swoon worthy - thinking of others first). My mind is in a f*cking tailspin when it comes to this series and I love it and can’t f*cking wait for more. Nothing that is coming to mind to express how much I enjoyed every minute every page of their ride. Fav Hothouse moments: “I love you beyond physical attraction.” ..”I love you Dais, because you’re the wildest f*cking girl with the biggest f*cking heart. And without you in my life” ….”I’d be the unhappiest f*cking guy.” Friends aren’t forever. They’re not even for a while. They come into your life and they leave when something or someone changes. Nothing grounds them to you. Not blood or loyalty. They’re just...fleeting. You can't grow under natural conditions. You need adventure and security and love in order to stay alive.”

Yet another winner by Ritchie--5 Star Review Wow--I knew it would be coming from earlier in the series, and honestly, it initially irked me, but my apologies to Ms. Ritchie, because I was so wrong!!! This book is Daisy and Ryke's story and it was amazing. Despite the longer length, I was so engrossed with not only their story, but this group's tale that I was able to fly through the pages. Ryke seriously deserves his own paragraph in my review because, well he is just WORTHY. He may not have thought so about himself, but I have loved him from the beginning of this series. He is in your face, foul-mouthed, and sexy like no other. Ritchie does such an amazing job with her writing that I feel like I can see him climbing up the face of a mountain, let alone doing other things. Let me just say, I have a new appreciation for cornfields. Despite all that, he was a troubled guy who just really wanted to do the right thing but found it difficult due to his past. I loved how he works through everything and I love how he eventually handles everything with Daisy and her family. Daisy has been somewhat of a wild child throughout this entire series but I had no true idea how troubled she was. This story helped illustrate how Daisy was in someways more mature than her sister Lily. Daisy, due to pressure from her mother, just had to grow up too fast and was in situations that no teenager should be facing. But all of that craziness in the life of Daisy helped me come to grips with the concept of Ryke and Daisy. Aside from their love story, the great part of this book, this series, is that all the characters we have come to love play very active roles in this story. It is not the casual mention of the characters but it is truly a continuation of their stories as well. As you may have guessed, the characters which were less than appealing, ie Ryke and Loren's dad and the Calloway girls' mom, show up as well. All the craziness and drama of their lives and the love they have found despite their situations make this such an entertaining book and one of my favorite series. I cannot wait to read more!!!!

I was so excited to read this book!!! I loved Ryke and Daisy in the other books. Daisy was young and crazy and wild. She would do and say stuff that I wish I had the guts to say when I was younger. She is awesome. Ryke was totally sigh worthy and always there for her. He drops everything for Daisy when she needs him. LOVE THEM! You do realize that as much as Daisy wants to be an adult she still has some growing up to do. I love love love this series and from page 1 you can't put this book down. I recommend you read it but you really need to read this series in order. I am giving this book 4.2 stars out of 5.

I wish I was as strong as Georgina Kincaid who reads 5 pages per night to draw the high of her favorite books out longer. Nope, that’s not me *shakes head* I devoured this baby in two days and why so? Um, it’s an enormous beast full of so many amazing things that if I had had to take it any slower I’d probably have drowned in anticipation of what comes next since this pretty had a LOT in it. Oh, did I already mention this one includes a ROAD TRIP AND CAMPING? That's already made of win ;) “Freedom doesn’t come with age. It doesn’t magically appear when you’re a legal adult. It comes when you stand up for what you believe in.” Daisy has always been a wild child in my eyes. I haven’t really felt connected to her, because she’s always so silly and playful that often you just can’t take her seriously. I’m more like Rose—OCD about things, very strict and neat all around so I was extremely scared that connecting with Daisy would be difficult to say the least. It wasn’t. The twins paint her colorful personality with effortless ease and watching her open up, start standing up for herself and start reaching for her dreams? It was beautiful and very inspiring. Also, we got to see how all the previous drama with her sister’s sex addiction and the reality show affected her—it ain’t pretty and it was hard watching her go through all of it. I was pretty much bathing in excitement and admiration Stiles-style (ha, look at that tongue twister) when she finally stood up for herself and started living her own dreams not her mother's. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. Ryke’s issues are the serious kind as well. His family is so effed up and watching him being pulled in every direction was tough. I’m glad that he got some major character growth as well. What’s more, I love how these stories aren’t just romance novels. Nope. They’re full of character growth for every single character—even the minor ones; they’re thrilling, character-driven, action-packed, emotional (um, hello there sad tears, frustration tears and happy tears!), well-developed and if you think about the whole addicted series, then pretty darn complicated as well. OH, OH, OH!!!! AND THE RYKE-CONNOR-LO BROMANCE? EPICNESS EVERYWHERE. This calls for a dance party *duh* There was one thing that bothered me but at the same time didn't since it has been the character's personality from day one. It’s hard to explain if you haven't read any of these books. If you know about the first novel then you know it’s about a sex addict and an alcoholic. Lo, Ryke’s brother, is that alcoholic and watching him be his mighty self and try to get everyone hate him by going off on them and digging up hurt was so freakin’ painful. He was a douche throughout most of this book. Then again, I somewhat understand him what with his upbringing, addiction and now this. It just hurt my heart to see him that way and see everyone else hurt as a consequence. I know he doesn’t mean hurt (in the long run), but more often than not it slices the hearts of the people around him and his own as well. It just sucks to watch that kind of self-destruction. Btw, how emotional was that desert fight scene? I wasn't crying, I promise. There was just something in my eyes; something liquid. That's all. It’s great that we didn’t get any sexy teasers or extremely adorable scenes before the book was out because it did feel like I got to explore it on my own and nothing felt repetitive. The small teasers we got built up anticipation but at the end of the day they didn’t spoil the book and for that I’m extremely glad—made the reading experience better for sure. Plus, the twists people! THE TWISTS. I realized pretty early on what Connor and Rose we're fighting about (and you’ll probably all realize it yourselves as well since it’s so very obvious), but oh gawwwd. There were things in this book that knocked my chin to the floor and I could not pick it up again to save my life. The staircase? Paris? The boarding and coming off the private jet? The cold shower? Yep, these are just to name a few.  My reviews aren’t published in the order that I’ve read them so it’s hard for you to tell when was the last time I enjoyed a book so much to give it 5 stars. Um, it was actually at the beginning of February and it’s been two months since then. The missing 5 stars finally came and it was all sorts of emotional. So ready for the paperback to come out and decorate my collection. I can tell you that I will read this book back to back many, many times to come and it couldn’t have been more perfect in my eyes. I can't tell this enough: READ THIS SERIES!!! #bookpushing123 Overall rating: 5.0 out of 5.0 Originally published on my blog @ Little Pieces of Imagination

Ryke rules! This series just keeps getting better and better. I was so looking forward to this book the most. Daisy and Ryke are by far my favorite of the Calloway sisters and Hale brothers. Sexy foul mouthed and completely devoted man. His attraction and love for Daisy was the sweetest ever. And Daisy's insecurities and sense of complete abandon made her so endearing. I also enjoy how intricately the other characters played into Ryke and Daisy's story. Did not disappoint!!

The Addicted Series is one of my favorite all-time series. The six characters are so original, damaged, and addictive. I love how their lives are so intertwined and how they relate to one another. I fell in love with Ryke from the beginning...a strong, sensitive, damaged, selfless hero. His support of Lo through all his struggles was heart-warming. Ryke and Daisy's relationship has been one long road of foreplay. Hothouse Flower is just that foreplay. It builds and then explodes. Who will ever forget the stairwell scene? The age differences, the outside struggles, their pasts just make this story so much stronger. Ryke's quote about Daisy says it all: "You're a hothouse flower. You can't grow under natural conditions. You need adventure. And security and love in order to stay alive." AHHHH! I loved every word. Most of all I loved the ending! It was well worth the wait.

I agree with the other reviews, if you haven't started this series....what are you waiting for!? It would be best to read them in order so you can appreciate all of their relationships. I have loved every book so far in this series, but this one just blew me away. So beautifully written, I just can't get enough! I've been rooting for Daisy and Ryke for so long and I'm so happy to finally read about their story. Can't wait to wait to see how life will unfold in the next few books!

This is the second stand-alone in a spin-off series. You technically can read this book all on its own. Don't do it. You'll have no idea what's going on and won't be able to fully appreciate the story like it deserves. Follow this reading order (see my blog for my reviews of each book): Addicted to You, book 1 Ricochet, book 1.5 Addicted for Now, book 2 Kissing the Sky, spin-off stand alone 1 Hothouse Flower, spin-off stand-alone 2 Thrive (coming soon), book 2.5 Addicted After All (coming soon), book 3 Everyone, take note! *This* is how New Adult should be done. Krista and Becca Ritchie are amazing at what they do. This book, the entire series that they've written, is perfection. Truly, there's so many good things I can say, but I feel like I'd be repeating my past reviews. Sticking solely to this book, it far and away exceeded my expectations. I was expecting something awesome, but what I got was so much better. The build up to Daisy and Ryke's relationship (this book and the previous) has been insane. I've been rooting for them as a couple for a long time now. I'm so glad with the way things played out. Of course, we're treated to Lily, Lo, Rose, and Connor in this book, too. In fact, things that happen in this book set up for some very interesting things in the books to come. I can't wait for more from Krista and Becca. You can read all of my reviews on my blog, KDH Reviews.
