Overview

House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara G. Forden

Did Patrizia Reggiani murder her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci in 1995 because his spending was wildly out of control? Did she do it because her glamerous ex was preparing to marry his mistress Paola Franchi? Is there a chance she didn't do it at all?

In this gripping account of the ascent and eventual collapse of the Gucci dynasty, Sara Forden takes us behind the scenes of the second Trial of the Century and exposes the passions, the power, and the vulnerabilities of the greatest fashion family of our times. From the day Guccio Gucci opened his modest leather goods shop in Florence in the early 1900s to the day Investscorp took control of the multimillion dollar company in 1993; from the signature horse-bit loafers and bamboo-handled bags of the '80s to the sexy, hard-edged Tom Ford designs of today, this is a riveting story of high fashion, high finance, and heartrending personal tragedy.

This intense and factual story is based on the historical makeup of how the Gucci fashion evolved till this day. The House of Gucci is portrayed as ¿Guccis¿ losing control of their company in which turns into a mysterious murder of Maurizio Gucci. Son of Rodolfo Gucci, Maurizio inherits more than 50% of the Gucci company. The Gucci Dynasty reveals a tragic tale of greed and consequences. Gucci is one of the most luxurious labels that influenced their signature horse-bit loafers and bamboo-handled bags. But as Gucci spreads rapidly throughout the world, financial problems begin to get hectic. Rumors later spreads after Maurizio¿s death, as ex wife Patrizia Reggiani is suspected to commit this heartless crime. As conflicts become more complex, fame and fortune leads to problems such as avarice between the Gucci families, glamorous reputations, love affairs, and degrading status. Law suits and trials occur back and forth against family members as everyone desperately tries to reclaim business in the Gucci company. This book is best recommended for those who pursue in business and fashion. Those fanatic Gucci fans who are out there, this book is a must read for one¿s acknowledgment.

And all this time I thought that fashion was just about fabric and thread! _The_House_of_Gucci_ was a terrific read because of all of the novela-style twists and turns and because of the way that it expertly documents the history of a family, an industry and an era. I suppose that one of the morals of the story is 'be careful who you marry' but another is sure to be 'there's always a new revenue stream.' I especially appreciated the background information regarding the family members and the hired hands like Tom Ford and Domenico De Sole as this information really gave the story the sort of depths that similar accounts often lack. This book is proof positive that in business, as in life, there is usually more to the story than meets the (customer's) eye.

As dysfunctional as the Gucci family appears to be to readers outside of the Italian culture, the only difference between every other Italian family and the Gucci family is the last name. This book will take you for a ride through the rise and fall and rise again of a empire comparable to the Roman Dynasty but on a smaller scale. The detail of conversations, although sometimes interrupting, remindes the readers that this is all real! The indignation and jealousy that almost every family member had against one another leads the reader to assume that an outsider had to intervene to regain control and reestablish Gucci's vision in the luxury goods industry. This is a must read for those participating in international business programs and those looking to understand the dynamic functions of foreign business practice. Once you put this book down you will appreciate the price tag of a Gucci bag.
