I like the fact that this book doesn't take up too much space and...I guess it's true. Good things really do come in small packages. At first, there were a couple of chapters in which I thought the author was contradicting himself: (chapter 3: Harness Creative Thinking and chapter 4: Employ Realistic Thinking) but after reading the whole thing, I was able to see how it all fits together. Overall, there were many good ideas in the book; some of them we've heard before, but are definitely worth repeating. My two favorite parts were "Question Popular Thinking" and "Rely on Bottom-Line Thinking" and a nice "feature" to the book were the "Thinking Questions" at the end of each chapter. This books makes you see things differently.

Maxwell as always hits the nail on the head. Given that we have become technologically dependent, we are moving away from the fine art of thinking. In this book Maxwell hilights what is required and expected of each of us if we plan to become great thinkers. Technology has given us the tools, but effective thinking and processing is the prerequisite for eventual success.

This is one of the books that I go back to annually just to keep the ideas fresh in my head. I can appreciate every aspect of thinking presented in this book! My favorite chapter would have to be "Question Popular Thinking". In general this book has taught me to block off time to think, and write down ideas. I should go into meetings with questions that I want to be answered based off the topic. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

If you have a background in management consulting, there's no need to pick up this book. You already have the training and tools to which the author refers. On the other hand, if you're not a management consultant and haven't had leadership training or would like a primer or guide that helps with keeping ideas in order, then this might be for you. Quite frankly, there is nothing in here that was revelatory. If you've followed magazines like Fortune, Inc., or Strategy and Business you're already aware of this stuff. Moreover, they give much better advice and practical examples. Throughout reading it I coudln't help but feeling that this guy was one of those Est types (like the Bert Convy character in Semi-Tough) who put together a few good ideas, made a seminar out of it and has gotten wealthy off of people who want career success but have no idea that attending a weekend seminar won't cut it. Apologies to the author if he is nowhere near such a character, but that's how it read to me. Bottom line: You're better off with a subscription to Strategy and Business and Fortune and bookmarking their sites. Long term benefits are assured.
