We bought all 3 of Julie Hall's books and found them to be very down-to-earth and very helpful. Cleaning out a parent's home and settling an estate is not just a cut-and-dried affair. It is HIGHLY emotional and has potential for dividing families or bringing them closer. The author makes us realize WHY our parent's home is SO filled with "stuff" for all these years. And she makes us understand that we are not alone . . . . thousands of other baby boomers are also facing cleaning out filled-to-the-rafters houses. That understanding made us feel less frustrated with our parent. I was originally going to buy books by different authors, but after reading all three of her books, I feel as though we need look no further. Ms Hall's books have given us a good blueprint for how to handle cleaning out our parent's house and settling the estate.
Another excellent book by Julie Hall, The Estate Lady! This lady knows her stuff! This book covers so much ground about equitable estate distribution. Every heir needs to read this book. She talks about the rights and responsibilities of an heir, and what an heir should do and should not do. Another key section talks about the role and responsibilities of the executor in an estate. She discusses expectations of value for estate heirlooms, and the factors that affect monetary value. Julie Hall richly speaks of the various personalities that are present in an estate, and what to do if fighting breaks out. Most valuable of all, she answers questions and gives practical solutions to real family estate problems, like inlaws, outlaws, blended families, and the sister who wants everything. This book is like having your own estate liquidation expert, executor, and counselor all in one, and for a lot cheaper! No one should walk through the minefield of family relations at a time of grief and greed without this guide!
