Overview

How to Pursue a Princess by Karen Hawkins, Alison Larkin

The sensible solution to her family's dire financial woes is for Lily Balfour to marry the Earl of Huntley, a wealthy widower handpicked by her matchmaking godmother, the Duchess of Roxburghe. Huntley is pleasant and attractive, the perfect candidate in every way. But Lily knows she's in big trouble as soon as passionate, unprincipled Prince Wulfinski sweeps a hot, possessive glance over her. By his own account, Wulf is a pauper, barely able to afford his own cottage. Yet nothing will stop him from pursuing the elusive beauty with every cunning trick he can muster. But which is more important: power and money . . . or love everlasting? To make the right choice, both Wulf and Lily must trust their hearts, not just their heads, to lead them to the happiness they desire.

What do you do when your father loses all of your money, plus some trying to create a unique rose variety? Why you call your fairy godmother of course! It never hurts that said godmother helped your sister find the love of her life who happens to be rich, and titled! Lily is determined to save her father from gaol and her sister from a horrid marriage. She decides that the best thing to do is follow her sister's footsteps and try to find not only love but to save her family. Wulf is a tall, dark and gorgeously handsome real-life prince looking for the woman of his dreams. With no money, but love in his heart, can he win over the fair damsel? Come enjoy How to Pursue a Princess and find out for yourself. Great read from a favorite author, all I have to see is the name Karen Hawkins, and I am in!

Just finished another terrific Karen Hawkins book! The Duchess Diary series is filled with romance, humor and truly likeable characters (even the Grand Duchess Natasha has some redeeming qualities!). As always, Ms. Hawkins' attention to detail brings her characters and settings to life. Can't wait for the final book of the series! S.Fike

A prince wants a woman to want Him not his money. A woman has to marry for money to save her family. Karen Hawkins is a wonderful storyteller.

Loved this book.  Karen has a way to put romance and humor together in a book.  I loved the characters.  I love how Wulf knew that he loved Lily from first sight.  Can't wait for the new book.  Star Fulcher

The second in the Duchess Diaries series and very well done. I loved the Prince Wulf and his character. He believed in love at first sight. He didn't give up the chase. His grandmother was an interesting addition. She and the Duchess Margaret were enemies. Once again Charlotte played a great part. Also the dogs. I didn't really like the length that Lilly held on to her decision to marry for money. I was glad that Huntley and Emma found out that they were in fact in love. A great story.

How to Pursue A Princess is a good book. Karen Hawkins did a great job bringing the characters to life. Wulf's grandmother was a bit of a character herself and presented the challenge to the Duchess that was needed.

The Duchess of Roxburghe is up to her latest matchmaking manipulations, making certain that lovely Lily Balfour will marry well. Conscientious Lily has made up her mind to save her family from falling into poverty. Even though she may not marry the love of her life, she will nevertheless accept the proposal of the very eligible, very handsome, very bland widower. Yes, she will. The charm of the Duchess that worked so well in the first book of the Duchess Diaries, was getting mighty tiresome in How to Pursue a Princess. Likewise, so did the furtive meetings in the woods between the girl in the cloak and the prince in wolf’s demeanor. The problem is he wants to be loved for himself, not his money, and Lily just can’t afford to marry for love. All this gets resolved after so many (obvious) plot event repetitions that this reader is about to make an entry in her own diary to break with the Duchess unless her house parties are enjoying, not annoying.

Karen Hawkins books always leave me anxious for the next one. This book was no exception. Funny and fast paced, with characters that kept the readers interest, I was sorry to see the final page come. Also like that the Russian monarchy is being given their due. Makes for an interesting twist.

I have been hooked on Karen Hawkins' books for years, but "How to Pursue a Princess" is right at the top of "must reads". She really brought her characters to life in this one. I don't usually go back and read books a second time so soon, but just thinking about the plot and characters has given me the urge to go back and re-read it.

A new book by Karen Hawkins is like a perfectly grilled steak--beautifully presented and sizzling hot! The romance is real, the characters are humanly fallible, and the humour is delightful! Witty dialogue, amusing characters, and excellent writing add up to a great summer read!
