About the Author

Janice Porter is a former home schooling mom. Learning to read by Phonics and growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, she knew that what her son, Casey was reading aloud at home out of his First Grade Reader wasn't Phonics. He memorized words prompted by pictures. This caused alarm. After learning about public education's reading deficit, Casey was removed from public school and came home to school in First Grade through high school. Over the years Janice read a lot of Reading and Phonics material, and wanted to simplify the information so that it would be easy to understand and teach...because it really is. She wrote down what she thought was necessary to teach, and made a book.
