Overview

Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret by Taylor, Mary G. Taylor, Dr And Mrs Howard Taylor

On March 1, 1854, a wide-eyed twenty-one-year-old man set foot in Shanghai, China, after a perilous five-month sea voyage from London. Living in a house that shook with c2annon fire, he faced poverty, cold, and death threats as he began the ministry to the Chinese people that had been birthed in his heart years ago.

Soon Hudson Taylor would be navigating the network of waterways in this foreign land and seeing the hearts of women and men soften to the Christian gospel. He spoke of divine love to a hurting people, embraced the children of the country he had come to call his own, and developed a method of sharing Christianity that would revolutionize missions forever.

In his five decades in China, Taylor led the largest Christian evangelistic movement since the apostle Paul brought the words of Christ to Europe in the first century. Yet the most remarkable part of Taylor's life was not the thousands he baptized but the hours he spent alone in his room, in prayer with the God who called him by name.

For a number of years she had a very fruitful ministry among the factory girls helping to elevate the downtrodden. In 1888 she felt the call of God to missionary service and, under the China Inland Mission, went to China. It was here that she met and married Howard Taylor and embarked on a very rich, long ministry in China and around the world. The content of this book is very good, but it needs a little more formatting work. This is an abridged version of the several-novel length original. However, it is very cohesive and the though flows nicely. The book really represents who Hudson Taylor is and the wonderful relationship he had with Christ and the work he did in China. It is easy to read, and the few formatting problems don't detract from its readability.

After reading this book in 1985, I have dedicated my life to the service of God and found real contentment in the simple things of life. In 1992, by God¿s grace, I was used in the formation of ¿Grace To Russia¿, a ministry to the former Soviet Union. God has proven to be faithful as we go from one difficulty to another. You will definitely be blessed by the reading of this book.

I think there is quite possibly no other man that by the way he lived out his life in quit obedience to the will of God that inspires me as much. I'm 18 years old and have a burning desire to follow after the things of God. This book shows the 'more' that so many are looking for.

This is the third time I've read spiritual secrets. Each time I come away with a new spiritual truth. I pray you will allow God to use the life of Hudson Taylor to inspire you to greater trust in Him.

I learned a lot from reading this book. It was the first Christian biography I read as a newborn in Christ. So glad I did! It encouraged me to read The Bible through every year. Mr. Taylor was not perfect, and after reading The Word of God through over 30 times now for myself, I can't agree with many things he did; yet God allowed the message of Christ to reach the Chinese people - that's grace - God's grace!
