“A self-help book for the other 20 million species on The Planet!”
-- Marlyn M., MA, Family Resource Advocate

Majestic albatross glide over infinite whitecaps. Day after night after night after day, relentlessly; the natural world pounds out its rhythmic beat as wide-eyed optimist Kestrel Falco flies out to the remote center of The Pacific Ocean. As the first ranger stationed on Halfway Atoll Wildlife Sanctuary, he restlessly jostles excitedly in his chair, bristling with enthusiastic awe as he gazes out the window of a small plane, high over the massive seascape. Has Kestrel gotten far enough away? What does he run from? What are the roadblocks to understanding, and peace? What was your altruistic act today? Join Kestrel on his chaotic, quasi-metaphysical journey through our sometimes-surreal world, navigating through family, friends, co-workers, enemies, nature, and sea and Earth; dodging dangerous sharks and deadlier goons, and most importantly; his search for real true love. Can he survive Halfway, the second most remote spot on Earth? If he can’t, can we? All he needs is a hand; a third hand . . .

Must we use violence, when absolutely pushed beyond choice, to save our World from a horrible fate? With the consolidated effort of his united family, will Kestrel snap into action, forcing the ultimate duel?
If we can’t even save tiny little Halfway from buffoons and goons, how on Earth are we to save our Planet, ourselves? If we can’t even make peace with our own siblings, then are we on our way to another Civil War?
Are we already at war against Nature, against US?
Howard Zinn said, “You can’t be neutral on a moving train.”
The world keeps turning. Do you grease the wheel?
The less you know, the smarter you feel.

About the Author

Born low-class but hyper as hell, never given a chance but surpassing all expectations, Drats created and fronted the Los Angeles avant-garde band InsectAffect and sung and wrote lyrics for the industrial progressive bands Death and Taxes and Burning Circle. While working full-time (usually graveyard shift), he put himself through college and grad school while performing in rock operas, avant-garde theatre, and video production. He became an award-winning video producer, and then worked as a federal ranger and biologist, and as a naturalist and writer, for over a decade. He holds an MS from one of the top 10 communication schools in the country. Two well-known scientists/author/blogger, with experience living on Pacific atolls, edited an early draft.

Praise for Drats and his paradigm shifting work: “… high energy, enthusiasm and good humor. He is a hard worker and dedicated environmentalist.” -- Michael C., Executive Director of Lectern
“Not an introverted birder or scientist, but a good communicator who reaches out to lay-persons in terms they can relate to without alienating them. I am glad he skips the pomposity. Humble, inclusive, yet funny, and at the same time, knowledgeable as a general naturalist, making the perfect philosophical guide for beginners and experts, adapting to audience without condescension” -- Peter P., PhD, Ornithologist/Author
“I hate Drats. He makes me want to kill myself all over again.” -- ghost of Adolph H., Nasty Leader/Dictator
“ . . . a fine job.” “well organized” “educational” “illustrated” “easygoing but highly informative …” -- Ruth L., Park Ranger, Natural Palk Zervice
“ . . . evoking images of schizophrenic sea monkeys on acid.” -- Libby M., Critic, Music Connection Magazine
