This book should be titled "Sheila Himmel is a Narcissist: Also Features a Few Chapters About Anorexia" They trick you into getting this book by starting off with an extreme story about Lisa going to the hospital after a binge/purge accident. "Great!" you think... "This story should be exciting!" WRONG! Sheila Himmel wrote about 70 percent of this book about her glorious job as a food critic, how she loves eating, how great her life is, and what joy she has with her husband. Lisa, her daughter, barely writes more than two chapters about her actual eating disorder. The only useful thing that comes from this book are in the last few pages in which Sheila and Lisa describe warning signs and tips on what to do if someone you know has an ED. If you're looking for helpful information, find other books. If you're looking for an interesting, gripping, thrilling or heart wrenching story, LOOK ELSEWHERE! TWO THUMBS DOWN!

This is a touching and insightful true story that lets the reader into the inner workings of both those who suffer with anorexia and bulimia and those who love them.

Great format by Sheila and Lisa Himmel. The chapters alternate authors, but it is not confusing. There is very honest sharing of emotions and situations around eating disorders. You could feel the scary, out of control situations that every parents hopes they will never be in, and can empathize with Sheila and her husband questioning every decision they were making regarding Lisa's eating disorder and getting help for her. It is a hard read, but a good read if you have any personal/family experience with eating disorders.
