Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic by Mark Starr MD

An astonishing book revealing the cause and successful treatment for the plague of illnesses affecting western civilization; including obesity, heart attacks, depression, diabetes, strokes, headaches, chronic fatigue, and many more. In Dr. Starr's description of Type 2 Hypothyroidism, he presents overwhelming evidence showing a majority of Americans suffer this illness, which is due to environmental and hereditary factors. Laboratory testing used to diagnose hypothyroidism is completely inadequate, and current treatment for hypothyroidism is ineffective. Groundbreaking research shows how persistent environmental toxins prevent thyroid and other hormones from working properly.

This book will lead you to understanding more about your health than anything you have ever read.

The book is written mostly in a medical jargon, but being a doctor I had no trouble understanding the content. Very useful information, indeed. It has changed my way of practising medicine.

The book was applied only to his experiences. It did not explain how to change your diet what foods you can eat or not eat or how to change your life style to help eliminate the thyroid condition or keep the weight off.

Excellent resource book for anyone dealing with thyroid issues and difficult doctors.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, as she felt that it described the health issues that I had. The pictures that she showed me intrigued me, so I purchased the book. I found it be compelling for me, because it really had descriptions that were pertinent to me and my health. Therefore, I consider this to be a life-changing book. I am now in pursuit of resolving my thyroid issues armed with knowledge.

The author takes a hard look at the testing for hypothyroidism and the current medical model for treating it. Hypothyroidism II refers to problems with the thyroid gland that are not reflected in blood tests. He documents this point very thoroughly; and sometimes it seems that he keeps hitting the point ad nauseum. However, there is no way to read this book and not understand the need to take action (if you find yourself in this category) and how one can do so.

The documentation is taken from studies from the early 20th century and the pictures are from that era. Dr. Starr builds a case for experts in the realm of hypothyroidism whose research is currently overlooked by the medical community. (That is the reason for the older pictures, I think.) I found it credible as he explained how this oversight has allowed some health issues to rise to "epidemic" proportions.

The greatest criticism that I have for this book has to do with organization. It seemed that sometimes the author went in circles at times. The point that was being made was not obvious; and Dr. Starr took a circuitous route to make his points.

This book is a great resource and well worth reading, if you want to understand all facets of thyroid treatment. It is easily read and understood. The author did not talk over one's head; thus, making the material easy to comprehend. This book would fall into the category of alternative health, for those who may want to know.

Life changing book! Eye opening read. I purchased the book after hearing Dr. Starr on the radio. I read it and then came across a friend who had similar symptoms listed in the book. Her doctors could not help her. She read it and later told me that it had changed her life. I am buying three more, one to keep and two to hand out - just in case someone presents with similar problems. Our health is in our own hands. Especially when the doctors can't figure out what is wrong and basically blow us off and tell us nothing is wrong -- when we know there is. Thank you Dr. Starr!

This isn't my favorite book, and it doesn't read like a novel, but if you are experiencing hypothyroidism then the information is very helpful. Although I have not completely finished it, I would recommend it.

I've have spent countless hours researching hypothyroidism and yet I still learned more from this comprehensive book. References from early studies and research on the disease along with the doctor's own experiences validate its claims. My own doctor recommends this book, and I am now recommending it to friends and family. It may be more in depth than most people prefer, but it's information we should all be made aware of. I agree with Dr. Starr that this disease is epidemic. But what's worse is how it continues to be overlooked or mistreated.

This book has opened my eyes to many ailments I see daily as a medical professional. I see so many illnesses that could be helped with the knowledge that Dr Mark Starr is sharing of the research of Dr Broda Barnes and others. It is concise. If only we could get more doctors to look at symptoms instead of the blood test readings developed in 1960's.I see so many similar symptoms of fibromyalgia with hypothyroidism type II. For years I have pondered a basis of this syndrome. I believe this is it. I also believe the possibility of reverse T3 problem with those suffering from FM.

This book sheds new light on hypothryoidism including it's symptoms, diagnosis, and root cause of other illnesses. If you suspect you are hypo and/or are being treated for it - read this book to find a roadmap that outlines your symptoms and connects the dots to your other issues in a way that you (or your doctor!) never thought of before. The historical pictures alone are enough to convince even a skeptic. As a medical technologist - I found Dr Starr's documented evidence and wisdom very hopeful for helping many with this problem. A book that's hard to put down - if you're looking for answers to health issues.
