Overview

I Am Famous by Tara Luebbe, Becky Cattie, Joanne Lew-Vriethoff

Kiely knows she is famous! The paparazzi (her parents) follow her every move, documenting with cameras. It’s exhausting being famous, but someone has to do it! She even gets to perform a big song at her grandfather’s birthday. When she messes it up, she’s worried she’s lost her audience forever, but it turns out that no one is as loyal as her fans who love her.

This is a fabulous story about “celebrity” from a child’s perspective (having a personal chef/driver/housekeeper and being followed around by their doting fans wherever they go). Kiely takes her fame in stride, even when she stumbles. Five Stars!

Kiely's belief that she is truly famous is a hoot. She's been the center of her parents' lives since she was born--so naturally they are her adoring fans. I love how she interprets the everyday (such as a letter from grandma or a drive with her parents) into celebrity moments (fan mail and her own personal chauffeurs). The illustrations are so fun and Kiely's many expressions are really priceless. She performs at her grandpa's birthday party after her lively introduction to her famous self, and she seems to expect it to be a flawless performance. But when it's not, the readers are introduced to a humbled and vulnerable Kiely and in the end this moment really makes the book.

Cute take on how parents become enamored with their children, take on the role of "paparazzi," and are their child's biggest fans. Adorable illustrations. Kids will love seeing their parents and themselves in this new light.

In I Am Famous, sassy Kiely is the center of her adoring family's attention, leading her to believe she is famous. Kids and their parents will recognize themselves in this sweet and funny story. Kiely is adorable with the perfect amount of sass. She is especially lovable when she is at her most vulnerable. In the end, while this story highlights the fun and funniness of being the center of attention, it will leaves kids with sweet reassurance that family loves us no matter what happens.

Kiely is so relatable to ever doted on child and the parent of one. She's spunky and self-confident and her fans adore her, even when she makes mistakes. This is a fun read for parents and children. The art is as spunky as the main character and the text flows, making this a great repeat read-aloud book.
